T’rintar Shal’rein, or Shal’rein who had moved and lived in T’rintar clan space prior to the Itrean Civil War of 2339, had long established their allegiance to the former Yutilian clan. With the partnership alliance treaty of the UWA/T’rintar clan in 2349, human volunteers were allowed to move, enlist, and serve on T’rintar clan warships, armies, and bases. At the same time, T’rintar clan citizens were allowed to enlist in the UHN as enlisted personnel, though by April of 2350, the rules were amended to enable Itrean personnel to sign up as officers under certain conditions. T’rintar Shal’rein had slowly filtered in to serve and become wives to the UHN staff members and UWA citizens alike.

After her defection from the Shal’rein clan, Shira, a former Adjunct and Lesser Adjunct of the Shal’rein clan, would “pose” as a T’rintar Shal’rein while living with her mate, Javier, on Planet Aphadus. However, within a couple of months, Shira’s true identity began to leak. Eventually, the result caused Shira to become a victim of an attempted assassination by members of the UHN staff on Aphadus who desired revenge for her prior service in attacking their planet. Surviving from her ordeal, Fleet Admiral Anaya would reassign Shira and Javier onto a UHN transport ship to keep Shira away from further harm and decrease the possibility of another attempt on her life.

However, this ultimately proved fruitless, as a Shal’rein clan warship ambushed and attacked the ship to which Shira and Javier were assigned to. What became a harrowing escape ultimately proved to be a benefit to the ship, its survivors, and Shira’s future career. Thanks to Shira taking command of the vessel, ingenuity, and quick thinking, she was able to devise a way to delay the Shal’rein attackers before the UHN would mount a rescue to stop the Shal’rein clan from destroying her ship and crew.

Word had ultimately spread of Shira’s actions. The truth was revealed that a prior defector was not only serving the UHN but also played a significant role in stopping her own people from destroying her ship and crew alike. Distrust towards Shira had become far more muted as she had proven to help humanity in its struggle against the Itreans. With Fleet Admiral Anaya once again inheriting Shira and Javier, it was carefully considered by the UHN to allow Shira to join up in the Officer Training Program and become an officer and future captain of the UHN Lifen. With Shira’s past service and experiences in the Shal’rein clan, along with recommendations by other staff, Shira was accepted into the program.

Shira is not the first Itrean in general to be accepted into the UHN Officer Training Program. Another Itrean, a Yutilian, by the name of Nah’lashe, had been accepted two weeks earlier to ultimately become an ensign. However, Shira still holds the title of the first Shal’rein to become a UHN officer, selected to become a Commander and serve as CO of the Lifen, due to her prior high credentials and prior actions under the Itrean hierarchy. Thanks to Shira’s rather unique circumstances and Nah’lashe’s pioneering into the program, it’s expected that more Itreans will follow in their footsteps in becoming future officers of the UHN.

For Shira and Javier, there is a benefit to human/Itrean mateship. With little written about the rules governing how Itrean “Marriages” are viewed under UHN rules and guidelines, both Shira and Javier are allowed to serve on the same ship together as CO and XO of the Lifen. It is expected that many more Itrean/Human couples are sure to arise on UHN ships as time progresses.
