Why not just take a DNA test to see if you have any matching family? That would at least point you in the right direction.

I think this story is during a time when public DNA matching wasn't yet commonly available. Though I suppose an expert hacker like Jan could find out that way, it'd probably be simpler to find him through the college. One yearbook later and she'll have a face to match to every Hans Mather in the country.

Somehow, I don't think Max Solomon gives out his genetic code for convenient testing. :)

The idea is to be your own person. Don't let genetic lineage define you.

My father was an illegitimate child, and didn't look anything like poppop. But I will definitely give mommom and poppop credit for loving him and doing right by him all the same. That said, I've apparently dodged the vast majority of hereditary conditions from that side of the family. And dad's genes mixed well enough to help me dodge all the bad stuff from mom's side of the family, too.

So yeah. It doesn't have to define you?

But it sure is handy to know about congenital conditions like heart disease, Lupus and others.

Personality-wise, yes. Biology-wise, it's impossible to escape your own DNA. I won't speculate on what connection that has to one's personality or intellect.

Dolly the sheep was the first clone from an adult, somatic cell. There were cloned frogs in 1958, but no one seems to remember them.
