My mother wanted to give a gift to her mentor Gloria. And she wanted it by today >.> So I had about four days to compose, write, record, and mix. I composed it Tuesday, wrote the lyrics Wednesday, and did all of the recording and mastering yesterday.
Gloria has always worked behind the scenes, directing, teaching, and mothering, and now she's doing the first role my mom has ever seen her in. Mom said she teared up seeing her for the first time on stage.
Here are some of the other things I based the lyrics on:
(texts from my mom)
She plays a teacher who profoundly touches a student's life and of course that is what she has done for so many people 2:14 PM
Her advice: to be present and let everything come through me. My greatest cross is what makes me such a good actress. That I am emotional 2:15 PM
And things affect me deeply 2:15 PM
She is like a mother to me and had always been there as a calming voice* 2:15
She appreciates everything in life- even the little simple things. She sees the beauty in everything 2:16 PM
Virginia's song that you love is about gloria** 2:16 PM
*her voice is actually very quiet and calm, almost like those therapist parodies you see on TV.
**our friend VA Matthews wrote a song about her that I really like, which was about seeing beauty in wildernesss.
When asked what type of music she wanted, Mom said, "Whatever you think is appropriate. Make it something Jerre Die would listen to." Jerre Die is a friend of the family.
I had a sort of lucid dream about what it should sound like, so it ended up being some combination of The Shins, Coldplay, and Fleet Foxes :P
LYRICS:
You said, "Your heaviest cross will be
Your greatest strength."
You spoke a peaceful melody.
Every breath was profound.
You see the world for all the shine
Hidden inside the darkest of coal.
You knew the goodness I could be,
And polished me clean.
You stayed in the wings and made masterpieces
Out of every ambition you stoked,
And it moves me to tears to see you out there
Where you belong.
It's your time.
Take the stage.

Gorgeous. Your voice is just beautifully rounded, it's so sweet and soulful and very charming without you even having to try hard (from what I can tell form the expression in your notes). <3 and the song is very beautiful, well done <3 Love it!! :D :D! Harmonies are made of so much win <3
I liked it so much I've d/led it and keep listening to it. <3 :3 Your voice and some of your music have that Britpop feel which I grew up with so it's full of nostalgia beams. I reckon you'd do The Bluetones "The Slight Return" great justice XD You're very welcome, keep being awesome :3!
