Hi there, I've just downloaded wordforge-0.8-rc1 and would like to try it out. In the documentation I could find (this Roadmap.odt document) I read that it is easy to install and multi-platform. However, in the folder I can only see some .py files. I would expect an .exe installer (for Windows) but I don't see one. So the question is: How do I install it in WIndows? THanks! Another question is: What is the state of development of this tool? Are people working on it or is it dead since 2011? Cheers, Manuel |

Hi Guys/Girls, Apologies to those who i've email directly already. I did not see the mailing list previously. I have recently added very basic Git support to the wordforge2 editor. It consists of a check box in the 'Save' area of the preferences window and a text field in which you can specify your git repository. In the catalogue manager it will ignore .git directories so if you have a catalogue which is a git repositiory it won't recurse through the .git directories. Additionally when you save modifications to an existing document it will add and commit the changes made to that file to the git repository. Is this something that collectively feel would be a good addition to the project. If so what is the best way to submit the patches for review ? It's been a while since i have used subversion, does it have a built in method for generating / submitting patches ? or should i commit to a different branch somewhere ? Kind regards Andrew |

Hi All, I was trying to merge a reference language into an existing set of translations: Tools > Manage Information in XLIFF Files > Add a Reference Language. All the info says that the user can merge either individual files or directories (when dirs have the same structure). However, when trying to process two directories the merger refuses to work with this warning: /home/gzalo/Desktop/test3rdlang/merged file name is not correct I think that it expects a filename ending in .xlf and not a output folder. Attached are a minimal set of files for checking this. When trying individual files (not dirs) all works as expected. Could you please take a look at this and confirm the issue? Thank you in advance. Cheers, Gonçalo |

I've tried to create a installer from actual 'setup.py' (0.7) commenting hunspell an dict lines. The point here is to create a base .deb package (and .tar.orig etc.) files that we should take to a Ubuntu PPA (or not). I'll try to send a example files and notes, but basically this can be achieved reading this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Python http://ghantoos.org/2008/10/19/creating-a-deb-package-from-a-python-setuppy/ > Gonzalo, you have to do this by hand after you install? Dear Friends, We have finished the code for WordForge 0.7, and we are now working on the installers. After solving a few problems with the tools (py2exe), we have been able to package 0.7 RC1 for Windows, and Rafi is doing the final testing to ensure that everything works as in Linux. For Python 2.5 on Linux, we seem to be able to create .deb packages, after solving a few issues with permissions, and eliminating all the code related to installation of libraries that we now consider as dependencies (Hunspell, pyEnchant, lxml...). What have we done with Leversthein, integrated or considered it as a dependency? Gonzalo comments that there are also a couple of lines in setup.py about management of dictionaries that are no longer used. The main issue seems to be using Python 2.6, which is included in some of the latest Linux distributions, without python 2.5. Gonzalo has been investigating the use of pythoncentral, which copies the files to /usr/share/pyshared/... independently of the version of python used. He has got retty good results with this on Debian and Ubuntu with 2.6, and can use the old version of setup.py that Javier Pais wrote, and it is not necessary to identify the version of python installed... except that for python 2.6 it is unable to detect the path for the images. The application works, but the images are not displayed. Gonzalo says that it is necessary to modify the paths for the images. Gonzalo, you have to do this by hand after you install? Does it work correctly after you do? Can you explain the step for using pythoncentral that you have used to create the .deb? Gonzalo proposes separate packages for different versions of the distributions. He will be sending some bugs that he has detected, which we should fix in RC2. Cheers, Javier |

Hello all,
Just two comments about WF and python2.6 installation:
-Source install in 2.6 works from source for me, AFAIK it only remains a
minor issue related to image paths.
-The patch send by us for setup.py should be written in trunk, so as to
support 2.6 path changes, use the right wordforge.py (that from root WF,
not from /Editor/) and comment out Hunspell installation in Linux
(better handled as a dependency).
I'm attachin a patched setup.py file from trunk. Please try it and
commit if it works for you too.
I've been playing a bit with image paths. In 2.6 no image is show in
menubars. Those declared in Preferences.py are working fine, so I've
tested in WordForge/Editor/ui/MainEditor.ui these changes:
-line 10:
import os, sys, platform
localpath = os.path.split(os.path.realpath( __file__ ))[0] +os.path.sep
-line 99:
- - icon2.addPixmap(QtGui.QPixmap("../images/save.png"),
QtGui.QIcon.Normal, QtGui.QIcon.Off)
++ icon2.addPixmap(QtGui.QPixmap(localpath +
"../images/save.png"), QtGui.QIcon.Normal, QtGui.QIcon.Off)
and this works for "save" icon after install.
I'm not a programmer and don't know how this could be done, but seems
that we must change all relative paths as made for Preferences.py.
Thanks for your work,
Gonçalo

Hi all, I've playing with some source items cleaning so as to get a thinner objects. Entire source project grows up to 95,6 MB: WF trunk = 95,6 MB - /Toolkit: 7,9 MB = 87,9 MB - /translate/doc/api: 54,4 MB = 33,5 MB - *.svn: 17,2 MB = 16,3 MB - /Editor/hunspell: 7,0 MB = 9,3 MB + *.pyc: 3,1 MB = 12,4 MB so, eliminating all .svn, Toolkit, hunspell & /translate/doc/api saves 83,2 MB. Note that some problems at uninstalling could arise if .pyc files were generated after package install (tested via .deb): insufficient permissions to delete them, so we must ensure that all .pyc files were previously generated (python -mcompileall) or delete all .pyc files (wich is a recommend procedure) and delete system generated .pyc with any automatic script before uninstallation. cheers, Gonçalo |

Hi all,
I've testing trunk rev 748 by generating a .deb package.
These are the issues found (most of them are certainly minor):
1) Wordforge.deskop file points to a non existing file:
-change filename "wordforg.png" to "wordforge.png"
2) Removal of .deb package doesn't touch these dirs:
-.wordforge
.config/wordforge
Also "dpkg -r" and "dpkg -P" can't purge package config files, as they
are created inside WordForge, not by .deb.
I we want to remove config dirs, this has to be done from WF (AFAIK) not
by system packaging options.
This would be a good idea, if removing gets done e.g via command line
option in wordforge.py, as .ini file could prevent WF from launching in
some circumstances.
Note: upgrading is not an issue, as a WF update will find config dirs at
startup.
3) Plural support:
I've testing plural support only with .xlf files, and TM, glossary,
spell and state functionalities are broken.
As Rafi has commented, another strategy is needed for plural support in
.xlf files.
IMHO, reverting of every tab function for plurals and handling plural
transunits as normal ones could be better (for now) than miss those
functionalities. This was done in 1.0 with new xliff class, but newer
changes (mainly in Operator for plural support) don't let us to merge it
with trunk. Also, alt-trans support in 1.0 has to be developed...
4) Gnome Accelerator '_':
a) Gnome acc '_' selection (Preferences > Error Checking > Preserve
~Accelerators) gets loosed when Wf is restarted; it fallbacks to last
"valid" accelerator defined.
b) Spelling is ignoring all accelerators except Gnome's '_'
c) Glossary handling doesn't supports '_' neither
5) Escapes (\n, \t...) has to be ignored in spell checking.
6) Country selection in Preferences > Personalize is also refusing
selections made after restart.
7) Trying to import a dict in .zip/.tar fails if done by means of a .deb
installation: raises an dialog. If this is done through source version,
it works like a charm... Sorry, no tracebacks or other error information
here... Included .aff/.dict files in .tar/.zip package work fine if
selected from the decompressed dir.
8) I'm a bit confusing with "Clear all Fuzzies" action. It is doing a
batch processing of state marks, changing from "fuzzy" to "OK". This is
great, as some other batch processing could be made this way, but I was
expecting a target elimination for fuzzy messages, which is a great idea
for translators that don't want fuzzy messages in targets (and work also
using instant TM).
If this isn't the desired behavior, perhaps present one should change to
"Change Fuzzy to Translated" or so...
9) Python format vars are not recognized in highlighting, e.g. %(domain)s.
10) Tools > Converters... don't work at all:
Traceback (most recent call last):

line 611, in getHelp
s=World.helpForAll[command]+"\n"+s
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'helpForAll'
10) Glossary:
In some positions, source .tbx terms with more than 1 word fails to
suggest by right clicking. This is also dificult to debug, as Glossary
window works fine for these terms, and right click suggestion also works
if they are not mixed in one xliff target.
I've made 2 example files to see this (attached).
In .xlf file, "make sure" & "your web" are terms defined in a .tbx file
imported into WF. Suggestion fails to work for both terms in segment #1
& #5, but not for segments #2, #3 & #4. I've tested many variations,
containing equivalences with 1 or more words, source and target texts
with non English chars etc.; it seems to fail only when a LF is present
between those 2 word terms...
Sorry, no traceback or other information here...
Thanks for your work,
Gonçalo

Hello Gonçalo, Thank you for your co-operation. The first problem for non English characters are also noticed here in my system. I will correct it. For the "sorted_language_code" file I am going to add the list in "sorted_language_code_by_countries" as I have added the other two lists as a fashion -- first country or language name then country or language code. And for sorted_language_code_ISO3, I think I have added the obsolete list 4 months ago. I will add the current list from http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php Thanks, Aditi. 2009/10/31 Gonçalo Cordeiro <loc...@ta...> > Hi all, > > Non English characters are not represented properly in GUI (at least in > Linux). Hello Aditi and others, > Here is my Preference ui. The error checking window is in the last tab. OK, I have been looking into it. The file has serious flaws and I like to point out some of them here: - you should not change the font unless you have very good reasons for it - you should not change the font size as well - never ever try to adjust text by inserting spaces in a label - never set line edits or labels to a fixed width. This one of the reasons why text gets truncated. - never use an empty label to make a separation always use spacers for it. They can have fixed size and you are able to see them! - you need to use a layout to align the widgets nicely. You will never succeed by placing the widgets manually in the form. Widgets must get the freedom to grow and shrink and that only works inside of a layout. - don't put help text in a dialog use the tooltips instead. -> much cleaner A hint for a better understanding of the designer: The property editor of the widget is displaying the default properties, these are inherited and not set! Only properties printed in bold are set for this widget. So I took the file and changed it to something that is better IMHO. I changed in many places, not only the page we were discussing. It is far from perfect but it may give you some ideas how the dialog could get designed. But the size is still far too big. I am not sure if you can use this as a drop in replacement for the other file. Because I might have not changed some widget names by accident and some widgets are now inside of others. If you have further problems with Qt's designer let me know, if I have time I can assist you. Cheers Jens |

Hi all, Non English characters are not represented properly in GUI (at least in Linux). This affects to country and language lists for Error Checking and Personal Information windows. Also, "sorted language code" file in WordForge/Editor/test_files is classified by country code, but long country name precedes it. This way, to select the desired code inside such a long list represents an usability issue (imho). The other 2 files are sorted by country name, so it's easier to select an option. I'm attaching 2 alternatives to this list: one sorted by country and another sorted by short language code, but switching country and language to facilitate selections. I've edited "sorted_language_code_ISO3": Gallegan --> Galician. Where ISO3 list is from? As I could verify in: -http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2 -http://www.sil.org/iso639-3 correct denomination is "Galician" in both. Is this one an older/deprecated version? cheers, Gonçalo |

Hello all, Attached is Javier Pais code to manage shaforostoff's xliffmerge.py It contains the modified xliffmerge script (max recursion limit set to 10.000) and standalone interface files for calling it. The user has to speficy both source and target xliff files, and write a destination file name too. When "add" button is pressed the user could repeat xliff files selection and add as many files as he/she wishes. Remember that for Windows "max. recursion" is hard limited to 2.000. A major modification of python version distributed is needed to override this limit, but no sucess could be granted here... best regards, Javier & Gonçalo |
