My sister, the straightest person ever, the straightest you can get, really, just finished Stranger Things, had a rage fit about how bad it was (she doesn’t know about Byler, we not ever talked about it) and when seeing the Duffers had released a documentary, she literally said (translated from Portuguese): these motherfuckers can shove this documentary up their asses I rather eat glass than ever watch anything they do ever again. So it’s safe to say even the GA is pissy at them.

heated rivalry really said queer love is art, queer sex is art, queer joy is art, there’s no reason why every story about queer people needs to be trauma porn in order for it to be good, we can have exquisite writing and deeply intentional cinematography and unbelievable fucking acting performances without having our characters die or break up or fall apart in some broken and dramatic way that implies queer people are cursed to suffer forever. maybe we can make art that’s about more than just our trauma, and maybe there’s more power in a happy ending, and maybe the point of art is to remind you of why you’re alive. fuck

I can’t stress this enough: Macklin Celebrini.
What they could've done if they didn't plan on doing Byler:
- End the unrequited love arc for Will at the end of season 4
- Make Mileven actually feel romantic in season 5 (after an actually well written monologue from Mike at the end of season 4) OR have them break up and both learn that they can be independent and have value (have Mike deal with his savior complex)
- Introduce a new, likeable, requited love interest for Will in season 5 with actual emotional depth
- Give Mike a mental health arc or something (Vecna him) in season 5 to explain his behavior in season 3
And most importantly:
- SHUT DOWN THE BYLER RUMORS AFTER SEASON 4
This way, even without Byler, the Duffers would've been remembered for crafting an incredible story rather than queerbaiting the fuck out of a whole generation and fucking over the rest of their narrative in the process.
God damn, just let me write the final season next time.
