Having war flashbacks thinking about my early education after writing that other post and it occurred to me that sv fic writers might wonder what the hell they actually did on Qingjing Peak with all the scholar stuff. I often see people have the disciples write essays or poems, and while essay/poetry composition definitely play a huge part in that kind of education, a significant portion of it would have been devoted to rote memorization.
