The 11th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th June 2024.

It’s short and easy, about 5 minutes probably.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

theres a lot of overlap in trans experiences and lots of people can see themselves in trans woman characters even if they themselves arent one. when they go "gee you could headcanon this character as other kinds of trans too" they arent saying that the character isnt or shouldnt be a trans woman or that they wish the character had been a different kind of trans. theyre just saying "hey lots of different kinds of trans people can see themselves in this character and i think thats cool and worth talking about and having a little harmless fun with!"

like lets be real here, this is an exaggerated and bad faith depiction of the behavior youre complaining about. you took all your least favorite examples of this behavior and cobbled them together into one strawman. these are random phrases about a variety of characters spliced together into one hypothetical Turbo Bigot.

you removed the context to evoke a reactive emotional response to garner sympathy and support. you left this juuuust vague enough that people can project whatever behavior theyre personally annoyed with onto this strawman without even stopping to think about what is actually being implied here. you never specified what creators and what characters youre talking about. you completely control the narrative and youve clearly skewed it in your favor.

furthermore? this stinks of transmedicalism. "this character is a transgender woman she/her male to female" and youre mocking people who want to see the character through a different gender lens that doesnt adhere so closely to white supremacist patriarchal expectations. like oooooh noooooo people on the internet with Weird Genders are headcanoning a character as having a gender presentation that is anything other than "binary medically transitioned trans woman with a normative gender presentation" the fucking hooooorror

like do you think youre being cute and clever and subtle? do you think we dont smells the transmedicalism? do you think we are stupid? you explicitly targeted multigender people, nonbinary people, and genderfluid people with non normative presentations in favor of uplifting binary trans women with normative pronouns.
