I Used to Belong to Someone

“Wait, you’re not leaving yet are you?”

I laugh and shake my head no. “I’ll come back. Ima just see the girls off.”

I step into the night pulling my boots a little higher and dress a little lower. I hug my coat close to my body as I huddle with the girls and begin to walk them to their destination. The air is filled with giggles and our loud voices. Soon they are at their destination. Jessica with her boyfriend and Sam with her situationship. I breathe deep and smile. Looking at them again I watch Jessica fade away hand in hand with her boyfriend. She falls all over him and smiles brightly. Did I ever look so happy leaving the party early?

I turn to head back.

My night is just beginning.
