As someone who draws a lot of faeries, Faestock is godlike.

A wonderful addition to the list!

  • Unsplash. Another whopping huge free images site like pixabay: free for commercial and noncommercial use and remixing; just don’t sell the photos unmodified or add them to other photo-sharing sites.
  • Morguefile. Big old free photo archive from the dawn of the web. “We are a community-based free photo site, and all photos found in the Morguefile archive are free for you to download and re-use in your work, be it commercial or not. Okay updating and consolidating lots of info here; as well as adding links for ease of access. Adding a brief description for some too; as is the case that not all of them have descriptions above.
(Warning that some of these links contain nude refs, I will try to mark where possible which ones have more prominent ones.)

Posing Sites and Apps:

  • Adorkastock. Stock photos for pose refs. DeviantArt gallery started in 2007.
  • FreePhotoMuscle.com. (translated page link click here) Japanese stock photo pose site that includes buff people, but in funny poses and costumes.
  • CroquoisCafe. (NSFW, nude model poses warning) A stock photo pose site. You should be aware this org has been linked as pro-Trump. I leave it to y’all to decide if you want to use the resources or not. I highly encourage not financially supporting them and trying to support the individual models if you can.
  • Line of Action. Fantastic site that includes posing refs, community discussions from other artists, figure study, anatomy, etc. So much stuff in here.
  • PoseSpace. Extensive library of poses. Some free resources others are paid. I’ve not fully evaluated both, but you should be able to use this all mostly free and get great use out of it.
  • SketchDaily. This one is one of the better ones out there. You can time yourself, search by pose, clothing options, body type, perspective, etc. All real models.
  • JustSketch.me. A pose app for any device. Has apps for most devices and a webapp. Customize and pose models/props/scenes.
  • Quickposes. Pose site that gives you timed challenges to become more proficient at poses.
  • POSEMANIACS. Ref site with anatomical poses. All the ref pics are of 3D models with only the bones and muscles. Can be helpful for seeing how muscles behave in certain poses. limited to two body types tho.
  • MagicPoser. A wonderful app that’s great on mobile. Lets you choose size of models, number of them, style, etc. Significant features are use of snap point with the physics engine, adjustable lighting, multiple perspective, 360 angle, articulated hand posing.
  • Clip Studio Paint Modeler. Free 3d tool that works with Clip Studio Paint. You can import your own data or other models you find online. Not quite an alternative to Blender, but the integration with CSP is very nice.
  • Egg a Zyoutatsu Atarichan Drawer. (requires enabling flash player or downloading and using standalone flashplayer) Drawing tool for pose practice. The developer is working on an html5 version.
  • DesignDoll. One of the best pose tool apps out there. You can customize so many things. They also have an extensive collection of ready made poses here. You can use the free or pay once for life and have the poses integrated into the client as well as the ability to export your obj to other programs like blender or smt.

Stock Photo Sites:

  • Unsplash. Giant free stock image site.
  • freeimages.com. Another stock photo site, less features than some others.

  • StockSnap.io. Stock photos with a creative commons CC0 license, which essentially means you can use the photos however you want and don’t have to attribute to them. (though its nice if you do attribute)

  • Burst.Shopify. Tons of royalty free high quality images. Similar licensing to StockSnap.

  • pixabay. I feel like most people know about this one, but it features entirely free CC0 licensed Photos, Videos, and Music. No attribution required, but still nice to support a giant site with all this content.

  • Viintage. Big collection of public domain vintage photos.

  • Gratisography. For commercial or personal use. They specialize in odd, quirky, wild stock photos.

  • pexels. Great free stock photos and videos. Only a few stipulations of what they don’t allow, but their license info can be found here.

  • Faestock. An artist and model with a huge amount of fantasy and fae and other types of photos available. Their terms for use are here.

  • MorgueFile. Old stock photo archive that’s been around a long time.

FAFO IN MINNEAPOLIS

this asshole had the entire city scared he was going to lead some kind of klan march and rampage through an immigrant neighborhood. he showed up yesterday with about 5 people and "marched" less than one city block before counter protestors super-soakered his ass in 10⁰ weather, pushed him back to his hotel, and ran him out of town. so so so proud of my city

people want a sexy fat character with big boobs but without every trait that is common among fat bodies and it drives me insane

it's just very discouraging cuz I've gotten to appreciate and even incorporate very ignored traits like double chin + fat neck, cellulite, stretchmarks, knee creases, and saggy breasts in my art overtime as I continue to learn to draw fat bodies.

these are traits that I HAVE btw. i just began to roll my eyes every time I see this sentiment around loving fat bitches and bodies but all the "undesirable" and less fetishized parts chiseled out.

don't. don't get me started on skinny arms on fat characters too...

something is weird with your baby’s genitals!! this might cause some slightly awkward hookups 30 years from now. as such it is imperative that we operate while its body is as small and prone to spontaneously dying as possible before it has the chance to form ANY OPINIONS

ladies is it feminist to continue to subscribe to, identify with, and popularize the patriarchal medical myth that normal menstrual periods are supposed to make you irrational, weepy and aggressive for a week out of every month between age 12 and age 45

so the issue here is twofold: first, if you have periods so bad that they are physically or mentally disabling to how you live your life normally, that’s an actual medical concern. it means you need medical attention and it is not normal. a lot of bad doctors WILL tell you its normal, thats a real issue, and getting help for disabling menstrual issues can be really, really difficult if you cant find a doctor who isnt a moron (not to mention endometriosis and pcos, please see my other posts about those issues). however you need to know that it is not normal or healthy or tolerable for your period to be more intrusive to your normal function than “i feel a little bloated, a little gassy, a little bit of pain (like as much pain as a hangnail or maybe you bumped your shin on something. pain you can walk around with easily and ignore easily).” if you cant trust yourself to make decisions, tolerate basic daily stressors, drive a car, or speak to people while you are experiencing the effects around your period, that is de facto a Medical Problem and no longer a Normal Period. if you experience despair, suicidal ideation, psychosis, or an inability to maintain normal social interactions during or around your period, thats an emergency and not normal. its also not normal to have cramps so bad you cant walk or stand normally, or to feel so ill you have to call in to work or rest in bed. not normal. so when we normalize this belief that “women* on their periods are normally and in all cases insane and crippled”, and that this is a fun Relatable thing about periods that we all experience, we are telling people who are actually crippled by their periods NOT TO SEEK HELP because thats just how periods should be. and they arent. thats absurd. human society would crumble if every person with a uterus was out of their minds for a full week every month for the entirety of their reproductive years. it is patently and on its face Not True

the second issue should be obvious but isnt: one of the central tenets of misogyny is that women are Irrational. this tenet underlies all aspects of patronizing oppression against women. “women cant be logical or rational, they are purely emotional and reactive” is a patriarchal myth that underlies misogyny in general. whenever a woman runs for president there is discourse about how you simply cant vote for her because shes going to nuke russia as soon as she gets her period. when we uncritically accept and perpetuate this belief, even upon ourselves, this is carrying water for patriarchal oppression. it isnt true, it has been debunked repeatedly in extensive scientific trials, and its just bottom floor, basement-level sexism. “girls cant be president because uterus make them crazy and weak.” believing this, perpetuating it, telling it to people, and thinking it about yourself is actively harmful

  • FOOTNOTE: we are referring to “women” throughout this post despite women not being the only people who menstruate because patriarchal myths about menstruating currently are leveraged exclusively against women and people perceived as women (even if incorrectly perceived as such). this is a post about misogyny, not menstruation itself, although trans men and other non-women who menstruate can intersect with this topic as well in different ways, usually through experiencing misogyny through being incorrectly perceived as or assumed to be women

kinda fucked up to be like "trans women being run off tumblr isn't at all related to social murder" when i literally would have been homeless a few years ago if i wasn't able to fundraise through tumblr

like this isn't an isolated or rare type of situation and i think it's at best ignorant and at worst actively transmisogynistic to act like there aren't trans women on here who actually do rely on having connections via tumblr to like. continue to be housed and alive. and pretending like it's exclusively white women in that type of situation so you have a handy way to dismiss anyone taking issue with your post is an extra layer of transmisogynistic
