“Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.”

TRUTH. What you need is imagination, and you don’t need to go anywhere to use it.

Yeah, sure, seeing new things is helpful as a fantasy writer. But. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that exposure to new things is the same as traveling. You know what else exposes you to new things?  The internet. Documentaries. Books. Freaking Youtube. So when you’re bored of cats and cooking tutorials, go on an adventure!

You wanna write create some fantasy creatures but don’t know where to start? Go check out some videos The Weird Creatures Earth has Had.

Want some inspiration for your Super Evil Villain’s Villanous Deeds?

Or maybe you want some weird locations to kick start your Fantasy World Terraforming?

But maybe you’re basing fantasy on the modern world?

That’s just the stuff I could quickly grab. Things I’m subscribed to, that I know offhand. There is So. Much. Stuff. Online.

The best thing about the internet is that it means its not just the fortunate sons that get to learn, and explore and imagine and write. We get to see stories from all over the place, from all sorts of people, who bring All Kinds of New Ideas.

I like you.

People zeroing in on how a Jem'Hadar hybrid violates canon as if it wouldn't be weird as hell if 32nd century Jem'Hadar were still just short-lived slaves to the Founders addicted to ketracel-white. For all we know the Dominion ended centuries ago. They're clones, they can be whatever they want

"But how could they reproduce"

Federation scientists will not accept that a single alien cannot make weird hybrid alien babies with every other alien. When the Jem'Hadar joined the Federation that was literally the first thing they went over.

This this this. Easily explained by using their noggins. But also:

1) They're acting like what we were led to believe about the Jem'Hadar is fact never to be questioned. The Founders did and said a lot of shit like "we are your gods" etc. Whose to say they didn't lie about the Jem'Hadar's ability to naturally reproduce?

2) We know the Ketrecel White replaced their need to eat and sleep, but what else? Possibly other important hormonal functions. So who knows what happened once they were off it and not dying.

3) Last but not least: Life always finds a way.

Seems legit 😁

What Starfleet Academy is doing is choosing the year of our lord 2026 to show a democracy that lost its way deciding to find its way back by relying on principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion after a period where “the law” was used as an excuse to separate children from family.

As always, thank you Star Trek for shining a light and showing us what’s possible.

there's been plenty of pushback against youtube's plan to age-check users by using an AI to analyze everyone's watching habits, but amidst that, i spotted this playlist circulating among some teens:

(picture is a reconstruction to protect the kids identity)

interesting! they're trying to trick the AI by watching videos that have a primarily adult viewer demographic? well im a curious fella so naturally i have to take a look-see, and

im simultaneously amused at the perception of what kids think adults watch, fascinated that they're thinking to take these measures, and saddened that theyre forced to live in a stupid digital panopticon
