i'm gonna regret this forever

Look, it’s a weird hill to die on, especially when I don’t really explain, but children deserve to experience fear, disgust, and discomfort in safe scenarios where they can process those sensations.

Media for children used to be scary and that’s important.

anyone else feel like there will always be a veil of separation between them and the rest of the world and that they’ll never actually be understood or is that just me

i think it’s funny that people only listen to american teenager and then write me off as a confused pop star bcuz that song is explicitly about the short time in my adolescence when i first discovered pop music and thought it would save me. i directly referenced born in the usa by bruce springsteen when i made it because i thought that was the perfect song that sounded like patriotism itself while condemning america in its lyrics. it’s literally the only song like it on PD because it’s the last time ethel will ever feel a shred of delusion that she can make it out, before ultimately realizing that her problems are not actually going away. personally, i think it fits perfectly on the record considering the narrative. but it being the only song making year end lists right now while the rest of the record gets written off as uninteresting and uninspired is….. very telling lol.

also side note, what do u mean my “aesthetic” doesn’t match my music and isn’t dark enough lmao. u want a caricature of the south, is that it? do i need to move back into a trailer and play miss redneck USA even harder? or maybe exploit my trauma in a more “on the nose” way with some more buzzwords? was hard times not dark enough for u? gimme a break. and stop tagging my pics with coquette while ur at it!
