hmmm. all the capgras and doppelgänger talk has me thinking about a new au idea. probably wont do much if anything with this one either but i think its cool
doppelgänger or impostor au — more lucas-focused, presents his fears about tobias being something demonic taking his place except his fears have been realized and that is the way things are in reality. calling him “evil tobias” for the bit. perhaps “tobevil” if you will since tobias is pronounced with that “ee” sound.
if this hypothetically was presented as a story there would be a lot of mindfuckery happening. lucas waking up when he didnt think he was dreaming and then debating if the things he saw tobias doing were real or not. he slowly starts doubting and second guessing himself more and more as the story progresses. maybe at the end he kills tobias (tobevil) but never gets answers as to if he killed this demonic thing or if it was really his son. and if he killed the demon would lady kiraba come back wanting something else from him? from his family?

In my headcanon, both Tobias and Emilio have incredibly offputting scents.
Emilios natural scent was replaced by a very sharp unnatural cleaner scent mixed with a stale air smell that hangs around his clothes. He is very much aware of this and tries to cover it by having his scarf spritzed with as much perfume as he can stand, which isn’t a lot, just enough to make the bleachy smell an undertone.
Tobias smells like a decaying body. Corpses have a small period where they can smell sweet alongside the usual corpse smell, Tobias smells like that sweet part. His family can’t distinguish it since it slowly accumulated on his person & blanketed the house somewhat, so he doesn’t know he smells distressingly sweet. His main scent fluctuates from sweet corpse to his actual natural scent (a mix of wood, fire, and animal fur) depending on how long it’s been since Edburt possessed him.
Emilios scent severely distresses Tobias and Tobias’s scent is very alluring for Emilio- and is very trackable.
