If you're wondering why I haven't been around much, surprise! | live in South Minneapolis where things have been pretty bad. BUT my South Minneapolis friends and neighbors have been wonderful. I love my neighborhood and my city. We keep us safe.

For Minnesota residents, Defend612 has some great resources in the links.

ALSO if you're a cartoonist or a comics person, I invite you to journal your experience of how ICE has impacted your life with your own four-panel comics! I'd love to connect with you.

Stay frosty, but abolish ICE.

Ok, imagine you're comic accurate Clark Kent and you're a working-class immigrant raised on a farm. You grow up and dedicate your life to helping people while being a total malewife to your Pulitzer prize winner girlfriend. You're despised and targeted by an unethical, megalomaniacal billionaire who thinks his intellect and his power and his wealth entitles him to your inherent abilities and the adoration you've earned through years of nonstop altruism. YOU WERE CREATED BY TWO JEWISH MEN IN THE 1930S

And then people complain about a movie about you being too woke

sweaterkittensahoy

Superman is an immigrant Jew created by two Jewish men who were watching things get worse in Europe while quotas for Jews were being cut lower and lower by immigration laws because of the eugenics movement around the world from the turn of the century and into the 20s and 30s.

Captain America was Jewish creators making a superhero who looked like the Nazi Aryan ideal but had the heart of a real American: a sick, poor, Irish immigrant kid from Brooklyn. He didn't punch Hitler on the chin on the cover of the first issue by accident.

Fantastic Four? Created by a Jew, who gave three of the characters super neat superpowers, and the Jewish character the inability to hide his powers at all. And then showed people reacting in horrified ways to Ben's appearance like, perhaps, he'd seen happen to his family and friends and neighbors because they looked "too" Jewish.

The list goes on (Magneto being the next obvious point). If you are reading/watching/taking in superhero media from Marvel or DC (Jack Kirby especially), you are looking at a character created by Jews who put their own identities into those characters.

And this is why it's good.

It says something, I'm not sure what, that the comics didn't acknowledge Ben being Jewish on panel until 2002, nearly 40 years after his debut.

There were hints and subtext if you knew about the bit of New York he was from, and in the 70's Jack Kirby sent out a Hannukah card with Ben in prayer shawl and yarmulke, with menorah, but that was a personal thing, not featured in he comics.

image

But it was Fantastic Four 56 in 2002 which had him "reveal" his Jewish identity on panel, when he thinks and old man from his neighbourhood is dying and Ben can't do CPR on a normal human because... well, obvious reasons.

Turns out the guy isn't dead, and they talk a little about things.

This trend of turning sexist, lgbtphobic, misogynistic etc pictures into beautiful and positive ART is adding years to my life.

Remember the “not like other [insert here]’s” meme is meant to divide us

God the trans one is gross. If someone who was fem presenting identifies as trans, they’re trans. Who cares if they’re feminine? If they call themselves he/him he/they they/them and claim to be a dude, then they’re a trans dude no matter their appearance

Same with the trans girlies, I hate the “ew ‘he’ has a beard, ‘hes’ faking being trans” like shut tf up, she’s a beautiful woman who find pride in her beard!! Or her broad shoulders! Or even her flat chest and or member between her legs!

Love yourselves, and remember to show support to eachother, we need solidarity so we can exist in peace🫶

Tiffany couldn't quite work out how Miss Level got paid. Certainly the basket she carried filled up more than it emptied. They'd walk past a cottage and a woman would come scurrying out with a fresh-baked loaf or a jar of pickles, even though Miss Level hadn't stopped there. But they'd spend an hour somewhere else, stitching up the leg of a farmer who'd been careless with an axe, and get a cup of tea and a stale biscuit.

It didn't seem fair.

“Oh, it evens out,” said Miss Level, as they walked on through the woods.

“You do what you can. People give what they can, when they can. Old Slapwick there, with the leg, he's as mean as a cat, but there'll be a big cut of beef on my doorstep before the week's end, you can bet on it. His wife will see to it. And pretty soon people will be killing their pigs for the winter, and I'll get more brawn, ham, bacon and sausages turning up than a family could eat in a year.”

“You do? What do you do with all that food?”

“Store it,” said Miss Level.

“But you-”

“I store it in other people. It's amazing what you can store in other people.” Miss Level laughed at Tiffany's expression. “I mean, I take what I don't need round to those who don't have a pig, or who're going through a bad patch, or who don't have anyone to remember them.”

“But that means they'll owe you a favour!”

“Right! And so it just keeps on going round. It all works out.”

“I bet some people are too mean to pay-”

“Not pay,” said Miss Level, severely. “A witch never expects payment and never asks for it and just hopes she never needs to. But, sadly, you are right.”

“And then what happens?"

“What do you mean?”

“You stop helping them, do you?”

“Oh, no,” said Miss Level, genuinely shocked. “You can't not help people just because they're stupid or forgetful or unpleasant. Everyone's poor round here. If I don't help them, who will?”

Pulp sci-fi illustration by Italian artist, Aldo Di Gennaro (b. 1938).

babyitaliano

This is probably the most culturally important thing I’ll ever seen in my lifetime if I’m being honest. I want this affixed over my mantle, embroidered into my denim, and emblazoned into my flesh so that generations to come may never forget this 1938 gem of an illustration. Put this on my gravestone and name my children after Alfo Di Gennaro. This is what it’s all about.

Artist was obviously a leg man, but I have never seen a female alien love interest designed as THIS alien before. She’s uniquely hairy, bugged-eyed, lines would indicate at least a partial exoskeleton, she has escaped being saddled with the mammories that a non-mammal being would not have, yet she’s got it bad for Space Force Leatherhead and he is so into her. I can practically hear his prose of her cabochon eyes of nebula violet, glowing with the passion to know and be known, in the starlight. The green of her body turning more vivid as discovery (and carnal knowledge) consume her conscious mind.

To suggest a red-blooded, human man could love Greedo’s cousin? Desire her??

This is fantastic, in every sense. How many lives did this change forever?
