*** IMPORTANT NOTE IF YOU KEEP FAILING A MISSION, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE YOUR MECH EXPLODED AND IT IS STILL ASSIGNED TO THAT MISSION ***
-More missions coming after the jam!-We intended for the jam version to have a complete story. You can see parts of that story if you press the "unlock everything" button on the options screen (warning, this will reset your mission progress).
MECHA MGMT [v1.4]
Mecha MGMT was made for Mech Jam VI.
In Mecha MGMT, you are contacted by a mysterious benefactor. They want to distance themself from their actions. You are a hired to manage a fleet of mechs. You must tilt the odds in your favor to win. Mechs in this game come in a wide variety. From special-ops mechs, designed to operate in pools of acid , to racing mechs that are built to run for 24 hours without stopping.
This game is meant to be played one day at a time. But if you are in a hurry, the game offers an instant mode. The game should take about 1 month to beat in 24 hour mode.
Controls -
Mouse Spacebar - continue conversation f5 - reload data from user files Escape - toggle fullscreen (windows only)
Options - 24 Hour mode - Each mission takes 24 hours of real time. Instant mode - Each mission takes about 10 seconds to complete. Reset Data - resets game to the very beginning. Only do this if you get soft-locked. Unlock Everything - This unlocks all missions, pilots and voicemails. This game is constantly auto-saving, so there is no way to "un-do" this action. Only use this option if you are soft-locked or if you are intending on resetting the game anyways. Instructions -
VOICEMAIL - First thing you do when you start your day is check your voicemail. Occasionally, you will get a mission from these voicemails. Once your are done checking voicemails on your first day, you will need to buy a mech.
Prepping for missions is critical to being successful. The first few missions may seem easy, but they can start to get extra-hard. You will need to understand all of the elements of managing mecha if you want to be successful on the job.
MECHS - When you send a mech out on a mission, it will always lose one unit of power. If it loses all power on a mission, it will destroyed and your pilot will die. So keep an eye on the power before you send your mech out.
REPAIRING MECHS - To repair your mech and bring it to full power, you need to use recycle points. You can get recycle points by recycling parts you find while you play.
PARTS - Parts can be purchased or found. Once you have a part, you may sell it, equip it to a mech or recycle it for recycle points. Equipping parts to your mechs can increase your odds of mission success.
PILOTS - You begin your mecha management career by helping your friend Jack. Jack is a pilot who will take any mech out on mission. Certain pilots have bonuses that can help your odds for any mission and returning home. Pilots are easily replaced. this planet has plenty of pilots available to hire.
MISSIONS - Once you have unlocked a mission, you need to assign a mech and a pilot to it before you can start it.
DEBRIEF - After 24 hours, you will need to debrief your pilot. You can do that from the same missions menu where you started the mission from. Once you debrief, you may start getting phone calls, so always check your voicemail after you debrief!
MISSION SUCCESS - When you hit the DEBRIEF button, you will be notified on your success or your failure. If you are successful, you avoid losing extra power and your pilot survives.
MISSION FAILURE - Some missions can be retried if you fail them. But if you retry a mission, your mech will continue to lose power. If your mech totally loses power, the life-support systems will fail and your pilot will most certainly die. RETURNING HOME - ODDS - Each mission has different odds of success, and odds of returning home. Parts equipt to your mech and the pilot you assign can offer bonuses that help your odds. Choose carefully!
MISSION ODDS, MISSION BONUS, RETURN ODDS, RETURN BONUS - What do the numbers mean? the 5/6 means you have a 5 in 6 chance of succeeding at this mission without taking any extra damage to your mech. If the mission odds are 5/6 and the bonus is +6, you are going to add +6/+6 to both sides of the odds. You can think of it like adding 6 more sides to the "dice".
Not all missions have odds like this. Certain missions have very low odds of success.
RACING MISSIONS - Racing missions and boss encounters have special inverted-odds. Where in a normal mission your odds may be 5/6 - in these extra hard missions your odds would be 1/6. In extra-hard missions, bonuses go toward the numerator, till they reach one minus the numerator, then they contribute to your odds as normal. The game just calculates the odds into a simple percentage for mission success and return success. If the percentage is red, you are doing an extra-hard mission.
Known Issues -
August 8th - We are working on a patch this morning. It will contain a number of fixes. I will log the patch notes here when it's ready.
-Criteria isn't calculated properly yet. So instead, all bonuses are granted regardless of what the criteria says. - At a certain point the voicemails stop coming. I wrote as many missions as possible. I wrote some even past the point where voicemails stop. At this point of the game, you are going to be soft-locked. You can see all the rest of the content if you hit the "UNLOCK EVERYTHING" button. But that will reset your progress. So only do it if you really want to see everything I wrote. Day 1 Patch Notes -Note: The "Aug-7-windows" file is our original jam submission. The embedded web version will have the day-1 patches applied.
