Hi! I figured out a shortcut for perspective with the pen tool (and a quick instruction on how to draw straight lines) in Photoshop. As happy as I am to see people gain the confidence to try out backgrounds, I should mention that it takes more than a trick to draw good BGs. I urge you all to try to learn it properly through research and draw from observation. Thomas Romain has a good batch of incredibly detailed, in-depth look into perspective on his twitter. I also learned at lot from Perspective! For Comic Book Artist by David Chelsea, it really is a must have for all types of BG work. Work hard and good luck!
i absolutely adore the way you draw hands!!! they look so amazing in your style. do you maybe have any tips on drawing hands? if you don’t feel like sharing, that’s alright!! i just wanted to share my love for your drawings haha
Hi!! Thank you so much for your ask, you don’t even know how happy I am to read this//// //uglysOBS
So! These are some basic tips for drawing hands. (And for perspective, a good tip is to use a cube: draw a cube and draw the hand inside!)
I personally like to draw most of my hands a little bony and with thin fingers and angles. Of course, it’s just how I usually like drawing them, they don’t work for all the different morphologies. I usually train by using photos of hands and drawing all their constructions. I’m bad with human bones so I can’t draw them but I can draw the simplified skeleton, and I recommend doing this as a regular exercice! It doesn’t apply only to hands but when copying a picture, not only copying what we can see, but also drawing everything we can’t see! Also, a good thing to remember about is to always draw things asymetrically. Anything organic will be asymetrical, otherwise the thing won’t look as alive as it should be.
I hope this helped a little! If there is any question or anything other you’d like to ask please feel free to do so, I’m always happy to share my drawing tips!
If you would like, I’ll have time on afternoons to stream some illustrations, and if asked, I’ll be happy to give tips on the streaming! Whenever I stream, I’ll post something on both Twitter and tumblr to notify anyone who would like to watch!
Weekly anatomy tip!
This week I tackle feet. I know how many of you asked for it.
It is hard topic indeed. It’s hard to draw nice looking character with feet that doesn’t look believable.
A lot practice is needed. I just presented few ideas and now you have to put it to practice.
Hope this helps !
