Ti FOCK, a pioneering force in maloya fusion from Réunion Island, returns to the spotlight with the reissue of his legendary 1986 album ANiEL, originally released by Celluloid Records and now reissued by BABANI x KRÉOL ART.
Recorded in Paris following his revelation at the Angoulême Festival, ANiEL marked a radical artistic shift. Drawing on a wide palette of influences — from Wagner and Mozart to Miles Davis and Sting — Ti FOCK crafted a singular sonic universe, blending fiery percussion, jazz-tinged structures, and spiritual depth. The album’s majestic choruses and intricate arrangements draw comparisons to Frank Zappa and Magma, yet remain entirely original and unclassifiable.
Ti FOCK was also among the first artists to bring modern maloya to international attention — using Creole language, hybrid instrumentation, and stylistic freedom to push the genre beyond the island and into new cultural territory.
This reissue, carefully remastered by Neil Combstock for Bōucan Road Studios, offers an opportunity to rediscover a visionary work of maloya fusion. At a time when maloya was still considered subversive and marginal, ANiEL stood as both a revival and reinvention — fusing heritage with experimentation, ritual with rebellion.

Ti FOCK, figure pionnière de la fusion maloya à La Réunion, revient sur le devant de la scène avec la réédition de son album légendaire ANiEL, sorti initialement en 1986 chez Celluloid Records et aujourd’hui réédité par BABANI x KRÉOL ART.
Enregistré à Paris après sa révélation au Festival d’Angoulême, ANiEL marque un tournant artistique radical. Puisant dans un vaste éventail d’influences — de Wagner et Mozart à Miles Davis et Sting — Ti FOCK y construit un univers sonore singulier, mêlant percussions incandescentes, structures jazz et profondeur spirituelle.
