as Russia indiscriminately bombs majors cities in Ukraine amidst rush hour again today, here is your unfriendly reminder that if you’re a tankie, support Russia, support Putin, think that Ukraine defending itself is “terrorism”, or support people who hold pro-Russia and/or Russian imperialist views, you’re not welcome on my blog. unfollow me right now. if you come arguing i will block on sight.

the concept of never including women in anything or never liking women in order to avoid misogyny is really funny and by funny i mean a different word

Look, I know Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a perfect man or president, but he has more self-restraint than I can imagine, because if I had to stand there while Trump said “Russia wants Ukraine to succeed” while Russia is actively bombing my country, causing millions of people to be without heating or electricity this winter, not to mention continuing to strike residential areas, kidnap children, commit widespread torture, murder, and rape against civilians and POWs alike, deny my country’s right to exist and be free from Russian oppression, and has tried to kill me multiple times, I would genuinely be completely unable to limit myself to just a sharp eyebrow raise and a sardonic chuckle. I would genuinely start shouting and probably go for a punch. I’ve seen people criticize Zelenskyy for being “too emotional” and not controlled enough while speaking about or to Trump, but I think given that Putin and Trump often chat before Trump talks to Zelenskyy (including on Dec 28th) and Zelenskyy knows Trump is a compromised Russian asset when he goes to talk to him, Zelenskyy is, given the circumstances, pretty dang controlled.

the Knives Out filmmaking is fucking genius because it doesn't hide ANY of the murder mystery details that get revealed later on. The blood stain is ALWAYS on Marta's shoes. You can see Miles hand Duke his glass, take his gun and hide it. You see Blanc hand Helen the Klear. You hear the 'clangy clunk' of Jud hiding the flask in the first scene of Wicks's murder. You notice it all after it's revealed. It's not added in in the reveal scene. All of the clues are always there, you just DON'T SEE THEM. It just makes it feel so much more real.

Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: I got in late last night. First thing this morning, I saw cars following an ice vehicle down the street, honking at it. Later, we didn't drive more than three blocks before we found people defending a childcare facility. (The idea that people have to defend a childcare facility... let that sink in)ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: Half the street corners around here have people--from every walk of life, including republicans--standing guard to watch for suspicious vehicles, which are reported to a robust and entirely decentralized network that tracks ICE vehicles and mobilizes responders.ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: I have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE fucking murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: It's genuinely a leaderless (or leaderful) movement, decentralized in a way that the state is absolutely unequipped to handle. There are a few basic skills involved, and so people teach each other those skills, and people are collectively refining them.ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: Before I came, I asked a local friend if the cold (it's going to be -20 or so in the coming days) would stop people from coming out. "No, we'll be there. It's ICE who can't handle it."ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: Today I talked with a 76 year old who'd been standing in the cold for hours guarding her neighbors. I was getting kind of chilly, even in the new winter gear i bought for this trip (and I live in the goddam mountains myself). She didn't even have a hat on.ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: Another person put it: "we're Minnesotans. We're excited to get out our real winter gear out of the box for the year." He was an audio engineer whose kid went to school in the area. No way in hell was he going to let anyone come for the kids on his watch. ‪ Another friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: I don't want to paint a rosy picture, because it's a city under siege. People are being abducted all the time. One person told me about watching 1-2 abductions a day, just in her own work following ICE.ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: But when I asked an organizer what they wanted to see out of press coverage, they told me they wanted people to see the beautiful things they are building here, and not just the worst stories of the worst of ICE's crimes. What people are doing here is beautiful. It's a tragic beauty, but a real oneALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: I've been here 24 hours, but already with what I've seen, well, I genuinely believe we're going to win. People here are well aware that what happens here impacts the entire country, that it sets the tone for resistance. ICE is angry, ICE is terrified, of how deeply unpopular it is.ALT
Bluesky post from Margaret Killjoy (margaret.bsky.social), reading: I've never seen a population more united. If people can hold onto that unity, if people can accept that different people will have different ways of confronting fascism, if we can remind NGOs and orgs that they can join but not control the resistance, then, well, people here will write history.ALT

the reason why russia needs ukraine to be a part of it is because its fundamental national myth is built on the idea that modern russia is a successor to kyivan rus. that's it. not because of nato borders, not because of banderites, or biolabs, or whatever else they feed the west to try and legitimize this war, but because of a fascistic need to establish their country as one that is built on ancient history and long tradition. this is why they deny ukrainian identity and language, this is why they kidnap and russify ukrainian children, this is why, on occupied territories, they burn ukrainian books, kidnap and torture people for speaking ukrainian, and start teaching russian language and literature in schools. because the existence of russian nationalism depends on ukrainians not being real.

And that is why even the anti-Putin russian opposition is just as vehemently imperialist as Putin himself.

Because the core of their very national identity is rooted in the idea of empire. Addressing it is difficult, because it's part of the given to them. But without them addressing it, russia and russians will never stop being a threat.

Hi y'all. Things are incredibly hectic in Minnesota right now. For those who have been feeling helpless, this is a huge list of resources to put money and energy towards that can help the people there who are dealing with the absolute chaos ICE is causing!

Please spread this around in places and keep talking about The Twin Cities and Minnesota as a whole, please
