My assignment for Winona Nelson's SmArtSchool class: Choose a favorite book and illustrate a cover for it.
I picked "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller, and my goal was to capture the bittersweet emotional tone of the novel.

the way they’ve already set up how ilya and shane prioritize hockey differently … like ilya looking at shane while shane looks at the puck … when ilya wins the cup shane is clearly experiencing envy and jealousy and a feeling of inadequacy next to pride but when shane wins ilya looks so proud and at peace …. the kids in the pool saying shane is the best player in the league and ilya clearly revelling in that feeling, feeling pride at his man being the best … “nice assist.” “nice goal.” …. the one time shane takes his eyes off the game to look at ilya the narrative punishes him by injuring him ….
How did we let this happen? We were both very stupid and irresponsible.
It’s so sad that students are now relying so heavily on AI for writing essays because they’re missing out on the best part of writing an essay which is when you’re a few paragraphs in and you just reach that flow state where your thought process becomes one with the essay and you’re slamming the keys so hard that you’re on the verge of destroying your laptop. I used to get high off of that shit

Im gonna shill for Marie Kondo again but this is why I find her books (yes, books, the TV show is fun but ultimately misses a lot of the core ideas) so good.
A lot of home org advice fully misses this aspect. Kondo not only acknowledges it, but leans into it. And ultimately this helps motivste me to keep my space tidy - it's really hard to me to keep on the nebulous goal of self-care, but much easier to get up and put things away if I envision my salt and pepper grinders as like, retail workers who are now standing in an empty shop (my dining table) and just wanna go home (the spice rack where they live).
Normie tidying process: that heater should be put away for summer! I mean, I'm not gonna need it
Me: well it's just chilling and also I can't be arsed.
Kondo: that heater has done a good job keeping you warm over winter and now it should get to go have a rest in the cupboard
Me: !! Sabbatical for my heater!! Thank you for your service sir and have a very nice break!
just saw a tiktok or something where the person was saying they did this and they were on a hike and they were like "i managed to get myself to go on this hike because i promised my boots we would go" and its like. OH YEAH. THAT.
this is also straight up animism by the way, yes okay we've always been autistic but also we've always had the sense of everything around us being alive - we've even lately managed to extend that to ourselves, be impressed
Marie Kondo's system is partially rooted in Shinto animism, where many types of object have their own kami, or minor deity. These spirits have their own characteristics, with angry spirits being associated with dirt, clutter, and disease causing agents, and happy and neutral spirits being associated with common and beloved household items. Housewives thus developed various methods of maintaining good spirits and disposing of the bad ones regularly.
Marie Kondo is taking a relatively common Japanese animist belief and her methods in response to that belief, writing it down, and packaging it for a Western audience.
In response to Slate's article on the possibility having non-heteromative team in figure skating (particularly, ice dance and pairs), Oniceperspective shared a glimpse of Gabriella Papadakis (FRA) and Madison Hubbell (USA) working on their same-sex program. You can see how they switch the leading figure between them.
You can see them trying out lifts in this video.
