āStop saying 15 year olds with weird interests are cringe, theyāre 15ā this is true however you should also stop saying adults with weird interests are cringe because who gives a shit
To wit:
I want to share some wisdom from my high school art teacher.
In my AP Art class, there was a girl who was just starting to experiment with mixed media. At this point she was still playing around, trying to decide what direction she wanted to go with her portfolio. So one critique day, she brought in an abstract canvas with some rhinestone highlights and painted and real peacock feathers. She loved sparkles and peacock feathers so she thought sheād try introducing them a *little*. And after everyone had given some input, the teacher gave her his advice, VERY roughly paraphrased here:
āSo hereās the thing⦠I do not like this style. These are just elements that do not speak to me personally, but I see that you like them, and youāre doing interesting things with them.
āMy biggest critique is, I only merely *dislike* this piece. I want you to make me HATE it. Go crazy with the things that you like. Donāt hold back trying to make it palatable to people like me. Because I am NEVER going to like it. And if the audience does not like it, it should drive them crazy seeing how much YOU love it.ā
Her portfolio was chock full of neon colors and glitter and rhinestones and splashes of peacock feathers and it was a delight. Our teacher despised every piece lol, but she got great marks and I think even won some awards. And more importantly, she was happy and proud of the results. Because she didnāt limit herself by trying to appeal to people who were never going to enjoy what she enjoyed.
Takeaway here: be as cringe as you want. Donāt limit yourself based on other pplās tastes. Theyāre not you, and you are incredible š
This is the most inspirational thing Iāve read all week. Possibly all year

My “100% Australian wool” is “made in China”. They shipped this stuff halfway around the world, spun it, dyed it, then shipped it back. Every time I see shit like this I’m reminded of how absurd it is that worldwide wage inequality makes this the most cost effective solution.
My country produces so much wool. It’s one of our main industries. There is no practical reason why it’s better to build the factories for cleaning and spinning and dying that wool in other countries, except to take advantage of worse environmental regulations and worse wages and worker’s rights. In practical material terms it makes far, far more sense to build those facilities as close to the sheep farms as is practical, taking into account factory emissions, population (factories need workers) and storage options. This shit was dragged over the ocean twice for the sole specific reason of making it somewhat cheaper for me and letting four or five different types of middlemen pocket the money that was effectively stolen from the Chinese factory workers.

“i would kill a pedophile to protect my child” ok but would you teach your child how to say no? even to adults? even to adults you like? would you teach your child the words “penis” and “vulva” and then use them? would you let them ask questions about their body? would you answer them honestly? would you learn how to cope with your feelings when you talk about human bodies, so they don’t feel ashamed? would you set a positive example for how you talk about your body? would you tell your child they don’t have to hug or kiss anyone? would you tell your family the same? would you stand by them when they refuse to hug someone? even someone you know has never done anything to hurt them? would you let your child avoid food they don’t like? would you let you child avoid people they don’t like? would you believe them? would you sit in the discomfort of not knowing all the answers and not take it out on them? would you love your child the same if someone did hurt them? would you make them feel valued just as they are? would you let them talk to doctors or nurses in private? would you let them express their feelings? would you show interest in their life? would you let your child say no to you? would you help your child feel safe coming to you when they make a mistake? would you apologize to your child? would you believe them? would you put aside your anger to focus on what would make your child feel safe and loved? would you put your ego aside for your child? would you take your child’s concerns seriously? would you listen to your child? would you believe them?

i am not a psychiatrist but i do find it really weird how autism checklists are so often focused on āoutwardā signs of autism rather than what is going on internally. i donāt know how to explain it but ādo you make eye contact with other peopleā feels like a much less relevant question than āhow does it feel when you have to make eye contact with other people?ā
while iām here, the other one that always pisses me off is ādo you interpret idioms literally, for example ābull in a china shopā?ā
well, no, obviously. i know what ābull in a china shopā means because that is a popular phrase with a clearly defined meaning. and if i hadnāt heard it before, then i would still not interpret it literally, because it has the cadence of an idiom and i would probably be able to work out from context what it meant. what is the point of this question
third and final complaint: āare you good at noticing subtext?ā
i feel like the problem with this question is best illustrated by a conversation i had with a friend a while back, where i said something like, āi feel very safe with you because you donāt do subtle hints and you are always very straight-up with me about what you are thinking and feeling.ā
and he laid a hand on my shoulder and was like, look dude iām gonna be straight up here. i am subtle with you constantly and you simply do not notice <3

So, remember back in November, when the Democratic candidate won the Governorās race in Virginia?
Well, hereās a news piece from a radio station in Washington, DC (in the very northern tippy-tip of Virginia) about the legislative stuff the Dems have planned:
Quote:
Almost immediately, there will be a focus on four constitutional amendments.
One would remove the same-sex marriage ban from the stateās constitution; one would restore voting rights for felons who have finished their sentences; one would codify Roe v. Wade; and the last focuses on redistricting efforts.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell said the measures are all expected to pass within the first three days of the session. The redistricting amendment could be on referendum in April, and the others, if passed, could be in front of voters in November.
Lawmakers have already passed the proposed amendments once, and theyāll have to pass a second time before voters can weigh in.Just thought people could use some hopeful news right about now.

Hereās a video from Belle of the Ranch (a politics analysis channel) about Spanburger winning the election (eye contact, auto captions): Letās talk about a big 2026 hint from Virginiaā¦.
The TL;DW:
- Spanburger flipped the governorās seat from Republican to Democrat and won by a 15% margin.
- She won 46% of the rural vote, which doesnāt sound great on the surface, but thatās still a 19-point swing in favor of Democrats over what they got in the last election.
- In case you think itās ācause of racism, since her Republican opponent was Black, that Republican got 61% of the White Male vote (and still lost)
- Spanburger won as many votes as she did in the conservative, rural, districts by actually campaigning there, instead of assuming theyāre lost causes, and pointing out how Trumpās tariffs actually hurt those regions.
- And if Democrats take the hint in the midterms this year, and do the same, the Republicansā recent attempts to gerrymander their way into the majority in the House could very much backfire.

Look everybody’s growth journey in BG3 is impressive but Lae’zel? Sometimes I think of it and it blows my mind.
If you do her non ascension path she goes from what is essentially a talented student, like the top of her class honours student ready to graduate, to rejecting her brainwashing and leading a revolution. Depending on your choices she’s either working with a myth, or a legend, or just fucking… doing it alone. Spreading the word, gathering an army when the odds are awful. And she is steel eyed about it. We know she experiences fear, love, passion. We know from her romance path that she has vulnerability in her, but for this? For this task of literally taking on a lich queen? She is unrelenting. She would rather die than live that way and see others live that way.
When we meet her she is, for a Gith, very open minded, but she is still singular about her devotion. She is still brainwashed, bloodthirsty, every inch a killer devoted to the art of warfare. And it just takes the smallest amount of companionship, chance, for her to become so open and loving.
And she can be convinced to stay in the place she’s grown to love, and to stay with those she loves, but I think it’s telling that it’s a persuasion role. She wants to, obviously she does, but her sense of justice, of what is right is so strong that she is willing to sacrifice her own happiness for the potential of her entire people to be free, and that is just. Nobody is doing it like her, sorry.
And the sociopolitical ramifications of that in the D&D universe? Hello!! Githyanki and Githzerai united, the potential felling of Vlaakith! It’s incredible.
What a woman.

Hey there, my name is Bix and I’m a writer here on tumblr. You may have read my story about the daycare worker at the end of the world, but I am also working on a novella (I think it’s going to be novella length) about a modern death witch named Tabby and her partner Callahan, who work for the Council and do their best to keep magic out of the newspapers (and off of tiktok). The setting is largely rural, but I would categorize it as urban fantasy, and this first novella is about establishing the characters, the world, and setting Tabby against the natural enemy of any Death Witch, a Necromancer. The first chapter is here, and the most recent chapter is here, and they should all link through to each other.
I’m too disabled to work, anymore, and so I could use your help! Sharing my stories helps, sharing this certainly helps, and of course money helps. Some people have set up monthly recurring donations, and many more people donate when they can as they can, and everybody who has ever helped me has my eternal gratitude.

i love translators’ notes. i love seeing a little footnote that’s like “compare my good and grass-touching translation to the STUPID translations of smith and johnson, who rendered the passage ‘xyz’ because their heads are so far up their ass they’re giving ouroboroses body dysmorphia” or “this sentence isn’t translated very well, but that’s because the author wasn’t making any FUCKING sense”
