@illgetthe it’s Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett! The second book in the Death series of Discworld. Terry’s books are great because while there’s technically an order to read them in, they also work well as standalones and you dont have to read every book that has come beforehand.
The A-plot is that Death gets fired from being death and goes to work as a farmboy for a 70 year old lady. Meanwhile, because death lost his job, people arent dying anymore. So a recently not-dead wizard (mentioned above) starts investigating mysterious snowglobes that are taking over the city, because theres too much life energy now that people stopped dying. The alive wizards are also investigating this, but doing much worse because they’re busy being alive and having pride. Death, who is still doing farm work, renames himself Bill Door and starts having existential crises about what it means to live and have human experiences.
