i just love sharing my practice

in reverence of the Theoi and the Buddha Dharma — meet Wolfe !

|| they/them || 22 || grecobuddhist ||

i worship many divinities, though i consider myself a full-fledged devotee to Apollon, Zeus-Helios, Selene, and Guan Yin. above all, my practice is centered on Siddhartha Buddha’s Dharma. if you’re intrigued, i explain/explore this syncretism more on my blog! Om Mani Padme Hum 💞

💞 more info + helpful post list + tag index below

💞 minors DNI privately! asks welcome :]

and if i said devoting myself specifically as a cleric to Apollon and Zeus-Helios appealed to me?????

it wouldn’t be a title of authority, i’d mean it as an equal member of the greater clergy that is the hellenic polytheist community. i’m drawn to this because so much of my life i dedicated to them. my massage therapy practice is dedicated to them— i pray to them before, during, and after my work days— my guitar playing and singing and athletics is in their honor!!! and cleric just feels like the right word. i facilitate healing for people in their names and find extreme delight in doing so. they facilitate healing and growth within me.

any leadership aspect would be strictly within my own household. my wife trusts me to take lead in prayers/offerings to Apollon and Zeus-Helios (while i entrust her to lead any ritual to Aphrodite).

i’m just musing here and utilizing my little community journal here to ask for your thoughts :P and to see if there’s any folks out there who identify as clerics themselves!!!!

Can I just say how much I love this post of yours?? I got so emotional over it the other day and it makes so much sense. I adore your viewpoint on this as someone who also worships Apollon and as a person who very much turned to art, poetry, and music to deal with my grief and loss.

Sorry for the random message I just really love this post and it gives me many emotions and I wanted to let you know 😭💛🧡

Is it relatively intuitive to understand what i mean by

“god is the space between us” ?

god is the space between us and the things we do to bridge that gap imo

“Again, she insists that love lies in between gods and men, mortals and immortals. Being neither one nor the other, it operates as an intermediary between them. “Being in the middle of the two,” she continues, love, “rounds out the whole and binds fast the all to the all.””

- “Buddha, Socrates, and Us” by Stephen Batchelor

Greetings, (Mx.? Mg.?) Wolfe, I hope that this ask finds thee well.

I have to say that I concur with a lot of your opinions on various theological matters (especially thy unverified personal gnosis about the Theoi being Devas, that They can bring temporal happiness but that Lord Buddha's teachings can be practiced to be free from Samsara in the long-term and have temporal happiness in the short term — and personally I view that these teachings can be used by the Theoi too). I was quite surprised at how much our views seem to align — pleasantly so, to be politely clear. The way you carry thyself in posts, too, is something that is very inspiring to me.

Ahem — please do forgive my rambling. It is rare I get to see such a kindred soul, and I am overjoyed at the occasion. To get to the original point of my ask, I was curious to see if thee had some form of reading recommendations? I am particularly curious about sutras (or any scripture to that end), books by theologians, or books in general that helped thee become who you are now are. It is clear to me that I am objectively but a novice still on my path, and it is most wise to heed the advice of one's elders (/lh) if one wishes to achieve growth. Thusly, I turn to you for recommendations.

Namo Buddhaya,

boy do i have the perfect thing for you but first THIS IS THE CUTEST ASK IVE EVER RECEIVED???????? THE FORMAT OMGGG!!!! i prefer Mg. ! i LOVE to hear how many fellow grecobuddhists are out there. i don’t consider myself very seasoned or far beyond a novice as i’ve only been a buddhist for 4 years and helpol for 1. i was raised in neither cultures, so i’m stumbling my way through this just as much as the rest of you and praying i’m doing this beautiful religion justice. my hope is we can all lean on each other and grow together :D

ANYWAYS HERE’S THE BEST THING EVER! i’ll make a separate post about this because it truly deserves it’s own, but THIS HARVARD COURSE ON BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES IS FREE!!! even if you only make it through half the course before running out of time (like i did) it still has FANTASTIC reading recommendations to jot down. i would 100% benefit from going through it again

aside from that course, lex hixon’s meditation on the Prajnaparamita sutra ‘Mother of the Buddhas’ has been a lovely read :) i JUST started reading ‘Buddha, Socrates, and Us’ which compares buddhist and western philosophy! i can’t give any real review yet but i know it’s written by a pioneer of secular buddhism, stephen batchelor, so i’m not expecting a religiously invigorating read. i also have ‘Pyrrho's Way: The Ancient Greek Version of Buddhism’ on my TBR.

if you don’t mind an audio experience this video ‘Greek and Persian Influence on Early Buddhism’ recommended to me a while back by @under-olympos-bodhi-tree

THANK YOU FOR THE ASK YOU SWEETHEART!!!! i hope this is all you were looking for and more.

Old W.I.P of Zeus Velchanos 🌧

Started drawing him after reading about The Hymn to Dictaean Zeus. The hymn invokes Zeus as the "greatest kouros," worshipped as a fertility god who welcomes the young initiates at the annual festival at his birthplace, Mount Dicte. In the hymn, Zeus, who "jumps" herds, fields, ships, cities, and young citizens,is called upon to return to Dicte and enjoy the singing that is taking place at his altar.

I mainly experimented with colors in this, and there's still a lot I need to learn before I can finish it. I am grateful to everyone who has given me good advice to move forward. But I had a lot of fun

Light exists for my God wills it, Melodies fill the spheres for my Gods sings it, Harmony finds the world for He wields it. Ever-gracious Gods, givers of All. May I always praise you by morn or nightfall.

português:

Luz há pois meu Deus a comanda, Melodias enchem as esferas, pois meu Deus as canta, Harmonia verte-se no mundo, pois Ele a manuseia. Graciosos Deuses, doadores de Tudo. Possa eu louva-los, noite ou dia neste mundo.

believe it or not, wikipedia can be an excellent place to learn about various topics in witchcraft (or anything really). you can find every festival, every religious practice, the history of any culture, and it lists the sources at the end of the article that you can check out. it's not the perfect place for learning but it's certainly a very good start and it's easy to fall down a rabbit hole of learning all sorts of topics. it will teach you so, so much better than any AI. it's made by actual humans and not just spitting out personalized garbage.

i have a monthly donation set up to wikipedia i love wikipedia

my wife is amazing at flower arrangements. i’d be lying if i said flower offerings became my favorite with no outside influence— they’re nice, but my wife’s love of them compounded mine big time. anyways :)

these were offered to Hestia, Hera, and Zeus. we toured our first house today and are praising them for how far we’ve come! as gods of the home, family, and prosperity, they have and will continue to have a large impact on our house hunting journey. i hope they enjoy the flowers and this public gratitude as part of the offering.

praise be to warm-hearted, steady-handed Hestia!

praise be to Zeus, giver of blessings, He who holds with the hands of a Father.

praise be to Hera, keeper of marriage and family, watchful mother of Heaven!

we humbly present this offering to You three and accept all guidance offered for the journey ahead.

I'm giddy cuz i have upgraded my zen altar!!! ALSO...I'll hold your hand cuz... TARA BODHISATTVA!!! I'm really excited and looking forward to learn more!!! (Also can you spot the teeny tiny bell ...its the size of my brain 🥹🎀) oh and HAPPY NEW YEARRRR!!! I HOPE YOU AND YOUR PARTNER FLOURISH ON YOUR JOURNEY AND ARE SHOWERED WITH LOVE FROM THE THEOI AND ALL YOUR DREAMS MANIFEST!!!
