he/they, 20. in college for materials engineering. banner is crappy image i took of etched case-hardened steel gear

Just found this gorgeous leather-bound and embossed materials encyclopedia from 1944 in a bookstore for $25 USD, I'm so thrilled about it I've been reading through the technical data entries for various materials like it's a novel. The cover is barely worn and the pages are pristine, might bring this into class to share with my professor.

In which Little Ghost exhibits more Cat Behavior (tm).

They're doing post-game void cleanup by revisting areas that Hornet has already 100% completed.

Other Hollow Knight Comics:

Transcript:

Lace: Spider... a question for you. Hornet: Hmm? Lace: Why does your "void sibling" do... that. Lace: There's nothing there. But they've not moved in ten minutes. It's creepy! Hornet: Oh, that. Hornet: They can see dead people. Lace: That isn't funny spider!!! Hornet: Since when do I jest?

If the Silksong DLC has Sharpe and the Steel Assassins in it, I’ll scream. If the Silksong DLC has Pharloom Bay and the Ocean Outpost in it, I’ll cry.

I think the inclusion of Sharpe has been all but confirmed, I mean they said that all backer characters will 100% be included eventually, and whoever funded Sharpe has already waited 9(?) years. As for Pharloom bay, I would be surprised if that doesn't make an appearance in one way or another, it seems like they put too much work into that to scrap it entirely (and the same goes for coral gorge). I'm a fan of the theory that someone (I forget who) posited on yt, which is that pharloom bay will play a role in a hypothetical dlc exploring the plasmium storyline deeper, given that Zylotol mentioned that the plasmium was first "discovered by [his] master at the farthest edge of Pharloom, hidden deep in salt-stricken waters." But then again it's team cherry, who tf knows 🤷‍♀️

Before the recent murmurings around Silksong DLC I vacillated between 1) the understanding that cut content from games like Silksong has no guarantees of appearing in later updates/DLC/future games etc. no matter how developed these pieces are. Simply for the fact that their exclusion from the final product is a deliberate decision by the creators. Most often the finalized game moved on from that idea and it doesn’t fit anymore. In one way or another (logistically, narratively, mechanically, thematically, etc. etc.).

And 2) a nostalgic longing for the things that had been part of Silksong trailers/showcases/dev play testing/sketches/theory crafting in ye olden times of the 2010s—and had not survived the cutting room floor—to be resurrected in some capacity.

As you say, it’s very clear that the creators put a lot of work into cut content like the Coral Gorge.

In particular, I oscillated like a swinging pendulum between whether or not it makes more sense for Sharpe and the Steel Assassins to be included in a DLC for Silksong.

Or saved for the next Hollow Knight installment.

Which I am keen to hypothesize will lead us to the City of Steel and the eponymous Masters.

In the case of the Coral Gorge, I’m less sure. The question we must ask is definitively: WHY did the Coral Gorge not get the Lost Verdania treatment?

You can make the most obvious connection, that one of Sharpe’s fellow Steel Assassins appears in the reveal trailer to be hunting Hornet for sport in the Coral Gorge. With the (I’d say hilariously circuitous) confirmation that Sharpe is “waiting in the wings” you may hang your hat on this connection. But I’m dubious on pointing to the reveal trailer as definitive proof of anything.

Yeah, who knows? Honestly, I’m pretty excited for anything new they might have in store for us.

Pacing. Ruminating. Had a think about it and my tags are going in the post actually ->

I will readily admit that my hope for Coral Gorge getting the Lost Verdania treatment is just that, a hope based on fairly little actual evidence. I just think that Lost Verdania and the Red Memory were together some of the greatest highlights and most fascinating aspects of the entire game, and I truly hope that the exploration of the dream (silk? memory?) realm using the needolin is expounded upon in any future DLC content.

As for why content such as Sharpe and Pharloom Bay were not included in the initial release, part of the reason is certainly the tonal mismatch with the rest of the game, as you said. However, it is likely also the case that TC realized they needed to release the game at some point and commit to holding some content for DLC or sequels (and they have basically said as much in an interview, iirc).

It is also important to note that Silksong itself began as a Hollow Knight DLC, and TC just ended up adding so much content that it had to become its own game twice the size of the original. That's why I say "it's TC so who tf knows" because it is entirely possible that they currently plan to include content such as Sharpe in a Silksong DLC, but will end up getting carried away and move him to a sequel yet again (which, though I would feel bad for the backer, would be extremely funny). Regardless, I do still think it likely all the major reveal trailer content to make an appearance in one form or another. Most of the major cut content from HK ended up in Silksong in some form, so I don't think the tendency for TC is to completely abandon fleshed out concepts.

my dm commissioned this wonderful image of our entire party from the extremely talented @zulivaris :) my character is the dwarf on the left (ranger/cleric) who is sorta turning into a tree lol

Thank you Zuli! we are all thrilled with the results ♥️

EDIT: it feels important to note that the in-game name of the adventuring party pictured is the Pancake Pals (previously the Potato Pals, until potato-related interpersonal drama forced a rename)

The Hollow Knights.

I really love the parallels between the Hollow Knight and Lace, both children of gods created to solve problems the gods brought upon themselves; one told to believe that they aren't alive and the other trying desperately to believe that with all of her being. My babies I kiss their foreheads

I call this the create a new problem technique

this is actually a common misconception! gunpowder is both a low explosive and less effective when soaked with blood. modern doctors recommend instead wrapping the wound in detcord to ensure a reliable explosion that will completely eliminate the wound :)
