Being in fandoms where people are super concerned about morals as a fan of Yellowjackets and Iwtv is so funny. “You can’t ship those two characters, they fought with swords that one time” “but one of them held the other hostage once” You guys would never be able to handle the de lioncourts or the blood hive. “How can you forgive a character for killing another major character?” My brother in Christ, the protagonists of my favorite tv show literally eat other people to survive

i bring a “technically i could do this tomorrow” energy to things that tomorrow me really resents
i’m super curious to see what the responses to this are

Round 1 - 2024 (The Garden of Time / Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion) - Match 30 of 100
Venus Williams (Marc Jacobs), left
“Marc custom designed this beautiful bustier satin gown compiled of dozens of tiny mirror discs for me encompassing the idea of fragility and time.” “It’s based off the theme of today, we’re showing all these dresses that are too fragile to wear. So he wanted to bring in the fragility of mirrors—I only broke one.” (x) (x)
vs. Lewis Hamilton (Burberry), right
“Lewis’s embroidered coat reflects the language of flowers in Black history, and is embroidered with periwinkles (for endurance), yucca (for eternity and protecting restless spirits), daffodils (known as ‘pass-along’ flowers for their hardiness) and cedar branches (for everlasting life). It is inspired by the story of John Ystumllyn, one of Britain’s first Black gardeners, and features a quote taken from ‘The Gardener’ poem by Alex Wharton.” (x)
Lewis Hamilton’s is actually gorgeous!
The description above says it’s inspired by one of Britain’s first Black gardeners, John Ystumllyn, and I noticed that was a Welsh name so I looked him up.
He was the first well-recorded African person to live in North Wales, back in the mid 1700s. He was kidnapped from his mother at the age of eight from either West Africa or the West Indies (unfortunately it’s not known for sure), taken to Wales, and reportedly “given” to a family.
There, he was a gardener in Criccieth, and eventually entered a secret relationship with a local maid called Margaret Gruffydd, who ran away to Dolgellau for other work. He ran away after her (a journey that likely took days), losing his job in Criccieth because of it, and they worked there as land stewards for a while before moving back. The family employed him again, gave him a cottage at some point, and John and Margaret were married – one of the first recorded interracial marriages in the UK – and had seven children.
Here’s the only painting of him along with the flower named after him; the John Ystumllyn Rose.
i need to say this in a safe space. i hate the word hubby. it is revolting. i never want to have to see or hear that word again
heterosexual women, i am holding your hand while i say this. please… enough. haven’t we endured enough?
