Me: I've been in therapy for a decade I don't need you to tell me how I feel about my disability and you need to stop assuming how I feel.
My mother:
Everyone needs three hobbies: one to give you carpel tunnel, one to leave you sore and bruised, and one for your distant relatives to insist you monetize
Jerking off. Falling down the stairs. Fixing the wifi.
Jewelry making is 3 in 1

I’m working on myself. I should be emotionally available by 2027 I can feel it.
i think people only taking in a surface level understanding of disability by only looking at visible aspects also tends to make them misunderstand what people actually can do. and what people actually can do is almost always "it depends". can a wheelchair user do a wheelie? it depends. can a crutches user walk up those stairs? it depends. can someone with a hearing aid or implant listen to what you want them to? it depends.
This is also why accommodations need to take into account fluctuations in ability. Alot of my accommodations for college are there -just in case I need them. I don't always need my computer to write notes, sometimes my hands do work well enough. I don't always need the due dates extended for assignments, but just in case I have a flare up, that accomodation is in my file so that I can fall back on it. Most people don't consider that disabilities are not always static.
I love nonfiction that I simply cannot relate to at all. "it's easy to get addicted to buying fast fashion! I used to spend thousands of dollars on it a year!" okay. you're a space alien.
"survey finds that the average person in the UK only wears a piece of clothing 7 times" what are you talking about. what are you fucking talking about. who are these people and in what world are they average.
I own 8 pairs of the exact same cargo pants in a variety of colors and like 20 shirts and I will wear those clothes until they are unable to be worn or fixed anymore. Wtf are people doing

Oh, your doctor is 99 percent sure you have hEDS and you have genetic testing to verify it and you're basically a textbook case for this genetic condition that your mother also has? Just go get diagnosed by a specialist! And then the nearest specialist has a 3 year wait list and the next closest is a six hour drive.
what language did you learn in school and can you actually speak it?
I learned Spanish and Irish while in school, I still remember what little Spanish we were actually taught (terrible teacher) and I am still actively learning Irish and I'd like to be fluent one day.
