I love that the internet saw people comparing women and other alienated groups of people and went, “they’re dating,” and, “they support each other.” We’re improving as a society.

Grand Dame Aziraphale (or, Huzzah! for THE Southern Pansy)

I love genderfluid Crowley with my whole heart. But can we focus for a hot moment or two on this Darling Dramatic Dame…?

Aziraphale is such a complex character, skillfully written and masterfully acted – and chronically underestimated. His hypervigilant anxiety (and the tension it causes) is so prominent, the other beautiful traits that make Our Angel who he is are so easily overlooked.

My thoughts keep returning to how Incredibly Poised and Confident Aziraphale is in the body of a woman. The Apocalypse is upon them, they don’t have a unified plan yet, but look at her! In this moment, that’s Aziraphale, not Madame Tracy. But Aziraphale, our dear Angel of Drama, is rocking those eyelashes!

I’m sure that some of Aziraphale’s radiant self-confidence is from his successfully defiance of heavenly authority before escaping back to earth, and his breakthrough in possessing cohabitating a human’s body. And now he gets to stick it to Shadwell. (Aziraphale is no fool – he obviously was aware of Shadwell’s disdain for him.)

The proud lift of the chin, the emphatically widened eyes, the little toss of red curls and dangly earrings… that smug self-assurance as she leans forward with that final quirk of her beautifully sculpted eyebrows… Aziraphale is fully enjoying this!

But that flirtatiously feminine confidence stays with Aziraphale far beyond this moment. At the air base, Aziraphale-in-Mdm. Tracy moves very differently from either Mdm. Tracy herself or from everyday-Aziraphale. It makes me suspect that Azi’s choice of a female form wasn’t a necessary accident.

I think that Azi loves presenting as a human female. I think that Azi feels confident and beautiful this way.

And Crowley…. Well, it seems that Crowley appreciates that quite a lot!

This is not a painting. It is made entirely of wood, its surface flat. A detail from the 15th-century “Studiolo Gubbio”, one of the finest examples of intarsia, the masterful art of fitting together pieces of wood to make images: https://publicdomainreview.org/essay/exquisite-rot-spalted-wood-and-the-lost-art-of-intarsia

To reiterate: this is FLAT. This is a collection of different-coloured bits of wood, carefully cut and pieced together. It’s not “oh it’s a cupboard and they made the interior items out of wood”, the cupboard does not exist. The whole thing is a picture.

Here is a larger photo of part of the project - remember there are no benches, there are no cupboards - and a detail from another area, both images from the linked article:

I finally drew something after LITERALLY A YEAR and it’s this. Idk I was having fun because I didn’t want to deal with a pose in something more serious (it’s actually not serious, it’s profoundly silly, but the style is more serious and requires more effort than I was willing to give in the moment). Pretty sure betting on who has to fetch the water tomorrow morning is haram, Yusuf.
