here’s something i made for my first year of visual arts !
ID for all of the elements:
- TOP LEFT: Red dress representing MMIW
- BOTTOM LEFT: Not Dead Native, a phrase that takes pride in living as indigenous ppl when we have such a high death rate
- Inuit spear
- MIDDLE LEFT: Fox trap, representing one of the first elements of colonization, the introduction of capitalist based trade through fox furs
- MIDDLE RIGHT: Dog skeleton, representing the mass catching of dogs in Kuujjuaq specifically that's a ripple effect from the dog slaughter, with Fireweed growing out of it, representing us thriving and growing even beyond our traumas
- TOP RIGHT: Uluk, traditional women's cutting tool
- BOTTOM RIGHT: Inukshuk that represents death, with an eskimo identification tag, tags with numbers that were given to inuit to “keep track of us" extremely dehumanizing
