I think sex repulsed aces should be able to openly embrace their indentity, their "culture" and to be openly happy being themselves without having to say for the 627291 time things like "but it's okay if other people enjoy sexual stuff!" so people don't harrass them, or accuse them of being "puritans".
this should be the most reblogged post on tumblr before it dies

I’m glad we cost Yahoo 2 billion dollars.

it’s like a perfectly preserved body at Pompei

Finding this on my normal dash is like taking a stroll through the Park and suddently stumbeling upon the Codex Hammurabi just lying there.
Seeing this just show up on my fyp is wild but I’m happy to see it
Why Alastor is aroace
I know this is quite the argument to get myself involved in, but this is a really important subject to me. I want to be clear that this is not inherently a criticism of shipping Alastor in general. Shipping/not shipping aroace characters is a whole separate discussion, one that I don't care to get involved with right now. To summarize my stance on that: the most realistic answer is to tag your stuff properly, and block the tags you don't want to see.
Hey. Look at me. Please leave yourself a note somewhere you'll see it later that says "it is going to take years if not decades to get the United States government to the level of functionality it had in November of 2024." If we elect a democrat in 2028, we are not going to be up and running by 2032.
Please make sure you have a reminder in your phone reminding you to not look at 2028/32/36 Democratic candidates and say "why are they not promising/delivering Cool Shit?" because you are going to understand that to get Cool Shit we must have competent people running a decently funded government, and we are not going to have that.
We are not getting UBI. We are not getting single payer healthcare. We are not getting free college or free preschool. We are not redistributing wealth on a large scale. We are not getting free internet. We are not getting ranked choice voting.
If we are lucky, we are going to get an IRS that can collect taxes, qualified schoolteachers, research grants, Social Security, and a government that thinks maybe it should be a priority for people around the worlds to not have AIDS, malaria or TB.
Ok one question I've had for a long time is exactly how taken names in SP work, because the idea of a taken name is such a nuanced concept and it's really interesting to think about how it impacts the magic around names.
As a baseline, we know that sorcerers have taken names to avoid manipulative name magic while most mortals do not. We can also make the assumption that trans mortals who have chosen a name for themselves (whether or not they're actually out with it yet) are immune to name magic.
But what about other sorts of taken names? For example, lots of people online (myself included) choose online aliases for people to call us by. Does that count as a taken name? It must, it is literally a name that you chose, even if you aren't using it in "acceptable" contexts. This also poses a problems for sorcerers in regards to hiding their existence from the mortals. They're whole tactic is to use their given names to manipulate them, but if a large portion of mortals are immune to that because they use a digital nickname (or really, any username at all!), then what are the sorcerers to do about it?
There's also people who came from foreign countries often having to pick a name that's more pronounceable to the locals. Assuming it wasn't assigned to them by their parents when they were a child, wouldn't that also make them immune to name magic? And with immigration becoming more prevalent as methods for it get easier, sorcerers have a whole other problem.
All this to say that name magic in SP is super interesting to me, I really like exploring how it can be manipulated and used to someone's advantage. There's a million ways this could be done, these are just a few! I'd love to see this come up more among fans.
I've always been really confused abt what exactly the process of "choose taken name, don't get name magic-ed" works, bc as far as I've read into the series there are two directly opposing examples of how it works:
In the first book, obviously, there's Valkyrie; China uses name magic on her because she knows her given name, and the spell is immediately broken when Valkyrie takes her new name.
But later on, (and you'll have to forgive me for remembering neither which book this is nor what the character's name even is) a man who already has his taken name established gets his given name exposed. Because of this, he has to go into hiding - but it's implied that he has to for fear of being controlled with name magic.
This is contradictory - why are the circumstances different? Is it because Valkyrie was choosing a name, and the act of that was sufficiently powerful to break the current spell? Is it because whoever this other guy was was just a little bitch? Did Derek Landy simply forget his own canon again? All striking possibilities.
But I agree, the name system is a SUPER cool concept. I think that, if the exposed-guy example is the one that ends up being explicitly more correct than the Valkyrie-choosing, then yes, this would mean major name inflation for the magic community. But, if the opposite is the case, then perhaps it's a good thing. People immediately waste their one "burst" of magical defense energy, and from then on only have a slight deterrent over them, rather than being extremely exposed all the time but have that bombshell whenever you need it.
It basically boils down to whether taking a name makes you eternally completely immune to name magic, or if it's simply a social barrier to stop people from being able to, simply by not telling them your real name. Similar to hiding your real identity online for security reasons.
I will say that the man you are talking about did not have his given name exposed, he had his true name exposed. His given name would have done nothing to him, but his true name (apparently assigned to all people by unknown cosmic forces) would have required him to know it beforehand and be able to undergo a very difficult surgery to protect it.
The reason Valkyrie didn't get into trouble when her true name was revealed was because she was the first person to figure out her true name and then went to Doctor Nye to get surgery on her heart to protect it.
There's a whole bunch of really interesting layers to the naming system, so taking a name protects you from most name magic you'll ever see (there have been few enough cases of true names being discovered to count them on both hands), but the exceptions to that and what you have to go through to further protect yourself is really interesting too!
KNEW IT i KNEW I'd get something mixed up *angrily shakes fist at self*
This does make more sense now, but. Why could China control Valkyrie using her given name if it's the true name that provides sorcerers with the ability to do that? Again, I'm confident I'll have simply missed something - after all, it has been a solid few years since I read the first book now
But absolutely, this fictional system being so intricate that it allows a detailed conversation like this to occur around it is a feat of its own

I am making so many “hey mutuals!” posts but this one is serious and it applies to everyone who sees this post actually. PLEASE REBLOG.
I just had to block someone with this flag as their pfp -
For those who don’t know, this is the MAP pride flag. This flag represents pedophiles.
Please reblog so people know that they are not welcome anywhere. Mutuals I BETTER see y’all reblogging this

EVERYONE REBLOG!!!!
I have to break my silence because this is an EMERGENCY, BLOCK AND REPORT ANYONE that has this in their profile or if they support these pathetic excuses for diarrhoea. They will NEVER belong here, blocking and reporting them WILL help save potential victims. Please also REBLOG so more people are aware of this!
Here’s some advice: When talking about “MAPs”, refer to them as they are. Pedophiles (unless of course you are informing people of what they use to make their disease, for lack of a better term, seem less problematic). But yeah, instantly block and report anyone with this flag anywhere in their blog or other social media profile.
Another thing...
Maps are attempting to use similar colors of Aro/Ace flags in order to trick others into supporting them. This could also lead to more discrimination of aro/ace groups.
In order to not be tricked, you should always check for desaturation when you see an asexual, aromantic, or aroace flag.
Examples for these:
(Desclaimer, while they have copied polysexual and pan, both are so different it's impossible not to see a difference. The aro/ace flags are near the same.)
Stay safe out there!
Posting this on it's own as well.
Guys the situations is extremely dire now. My landlord has started to put the pressure on and I don't have enough to pay him with. He gave me an ultimatum by the end of today. Please, if you can help anyway you can, I can still afford to my apartment.

Please help me.
Okay so bad news for everyone on YouTube right now
Starting the 13th, we will have an AI determine if we are children or not and if you are a child, than you are forced to send your ID, send a selfie or a credit card
This has the obvious cons of having your privacy being revoked from you and and in case there is a security breach, major identity thefts.
So what do we do in this scenario?
Well right now I have real idea as this is relativity new to me, but I do have two plans
Plan 1. Bug the shit out of them, send letters and send emails about how much of bad idea this is.
Include why the AI will mess up and target adults who watch cartoons, include privacy issues, censorship issues, anything you can think of that relates to this. I want you guys to bug the hell out of YouTube until they reverse this idea
Plan 2. Blackout.
Since the thing is coming out on the 13th.
The plan will be to completely avoid YouTube at all cost for that day, no watching, no sharing, no uploading, no nothing.
Download videos before things go down, watch Netflix. Whatever you do, don’t touch YouTube.
That’s all I can say right now, I also want you guys to let YouTubers know of this situation cause if it’s important for everyone on the website to talk about this immediately
Spread this stuff around, let people know of YouTube’s upcoming policy and how it’ll hurt everyone
Change a single letter and change the word game
I want to play a game with you all.

Am I the only one who straight up just doesn't want Rose back? Yes I loved her as a companion, yes I loved her as The Moment, yes I loved when 10 came back because he's great, but i was dubious when the latter happened because it was getting a bit too much.
And did I like it when they named Donna's kid Rose? No. Do I like that we now have to do at least three specials if not an entire series of Rose as the Doctor? No.
We can have a character be special without naming them/facing them (yk what I mean) after a previous fan-favourite, guys. Please just make new characters and let them shine without relying completely on old ones because you know they worked.
I don't normally reblog my own posts but I just thought of something else:
This has been happening literally the entire flipping time? How did I not see it?
We had the pantheon return, we had a Midnight sequel, SUSAN CAME BACK, MEL came back, EVERYONE CAME BACK
I think I can count on my hands how many actually ORIGINAL (important) characters there have been since the soft reboot, and it's really saying smth abt whether or not RTD should still be showrunner. IMO! IMO! I've always loved the old RTD stuff, I think he's just lost his touch since he came back!
