When Castiel first laid a hand on you in Hell, he was lost.
Buck's fingers are still shaking as he digs out his phone and scrolls through his chats until he gets to the one he wants. As he breathes, counting to eight and eight and eight for inhale and hold and exhale, his thumbs tap out a message. Before he can second-guess himself, he sends it.
heard a chopper went down and almost had a panic attack thinking it might have been you

Holy fuck you illegally downloaded a cardigan

Dang. The skill needed to know how to use all of those machines, the vision, the planning. Wowzers.
DESTIEL IN EVERY EPISODE → 7x05 shut up, dr. phil
there's always something eating at me. that's who i am. something happens, i feel responsible, all right?
There are many, many things to love about episode 5 of Heated Rivalry, but the one that cracks me up the most is the fakeout where Shane is about to leave the hotel room and is fully clothed, making it seem like he and Ilya didn’t have sex
And then the reverse shot of Ilya lounging smugly in his underwear on a bed that has been ABSOLUTELY AND UTTERLY DEMOLISHED
This is the "Evan Buckley Crashes Out Via Therapist" AU I was chatting about last night.
“So, what’s on your mind? We haven’t had much of a chance to talk recently and you’ve had a lot going on these last few months.”
Buck lets out a huff of breath, picking at his fingernails. Jennifer Copeland waits patiently, letting them exist in the quiet of her comfortable office. There were new throw pillows on the sofa and the chairs. In fact, the chair that Jennifer was sitting in was new. “I like what you’ve done with your office. The new color scheme is really nice.”
Jennifer blinked in surprise, a warm smile spreading across her face. “Why thank you. This is only the beginning actually. I intend to gut this place, new paint and wallpaper, replacing that window behind you, the works. Granted, I should have done that before I started adding new furniture, but I couldn’t quite control myself.” Buck snorted. The few times Maddie had gone shopping with him when he was looking for new bits and pieces to add to his house, she had had to rein him in on going into debt over lamp shades and footstools. “Life is short, why not enjoy yourself when the time is there for you?” The older woman tilted her head to the side. “Now, what’s going on with you, Buck? I am sensing some deflection from the issue that brought you in here.”
Buck takes a deep breath and relays what has been happening at the 118 over the last few months. “...and the thing is - I don’t think Hen even realized what she was doing when she hid being sick. It was…”
“It was what?”
He licks his lips. “Too much like Bobby.”
Thinking about Buck scheduling an emergency session with Dr. Copeland when he leaves the hospital. He goes to see her in the morning and relays to her what happened, relays the jab that Chimney had thrown at him, how Hen had complained that no one was there for her after Bobby, trying so hard not to be hurt over that obvious misdirect, fighting with Eddie again. And when he's done, when he runs out of breath, Dr. Copeland is staring at him wide eyed.
He nervously waits for her to redirect him, telling him that he's being foolish, that everything will be all right if he faces it head on and leans on his family.
Those words never come.
What does come is:
"You need to transfer."
whoever first pointed out that ilya americanises his accent around other people but not around shane i owe you my fucking life
also the idea of like when its just the two of them ilya can like just slip back into the more comfortable rudimentary accent he had at the start of their relationship :’) and that in itself being nostalgic for shane :’)
this would also be linguistically accurate!
i speak english the most in day to day life and also think in english sometimes. my accent in english is americanized, pretty indistinguishable from a native (excluding sets of certain phonemes like /rl/) .
but if i’m really tired or spending time just around my wife (with whom i speak english), i sometimes switch to what i call ‘lazy english’.
what this usually consists of is i allow myself to speak english with the russian /r/ phoneme that is more natural for me, i drop articles, replace continuous and future tense with simple present, use the ‘….,yes?’ construct, avoid contractions (bc the verb ‘to be’ is dropped/implied in russian, so contractions aren’t always natural)
for example, when i’m in ‘lazy english’ mode, this is how my speech varies:
‘i’m making the bed’ = ‘i make bed’.
‘you’ll help me later, right?’ = ‘you help me later, yes?’ (for this one, in russian, the same phrasal construct ends with the word ‘yes’ instead of the word ‘right’)
‘can you give me a tissue?’ = can you give me tissue?’
‘where’s the pen? do you have it?’ = ‘where is pen? you have?’
if you pay attention, you’ll notice that a lot of these patterns also occur in ilya’s speech, especially earlier on. that’s why i’m particularly impressed with the writing of his dialogue — it doesn’t come across as stereotyping/caricatural because the way he speaks english is consistent with russian linguistic/grammatical rules. this is often how russian-speaking people speak english when it is their second language and they’re still learning.
i like to imagine ilya reverting to ‘lazy english’ or speaking in a similar manner to me around shane. it is linguistically consistent and a sign of comfort/deep familiarity with the person.

Yes, this story is entirely from Margaret's POV.
"He—he did. That day was... I can't—but I think he and the 118 have come out the other side," Thomas says, flashing a quick smile at her. He pauses briefly, then clears his throat. "He's dating again, if that helps. He, uh—he was out with someone about a month ago. At dinner."
"You... were there too?"
"Celebrating with friends." The smile stays fixed on his face. His eyes refuse to leave the windshield. "But he… he looked like he was having a good time."
Before the moment Evan came into Howie's hospital room, dragging this man behind him by the hand, this never would've been a question she needed to ask, but she can't help it. "Who was—was it—was he with a—?"
Thomas levels another smile at the road, and Margaret has to look away from this one. "She seemed lovely."
