Hakea lehmanniana
Hakea is an Australian genus of shrubs (or sometimes small trees) in the Protea Family, with many species found in the winter-rainfall area in the southwestern part of the country. Blue is a very unusual flower color in the genus, which makes this species stand out. Our plant’s flower color is not a vivid blue, but rather a subtle blue-gray, so it does not call attention to itself from a distance, but up close it is beautiful. It is having a banner year, with more flowers than it has ever had. Because the leaves are very narrow and needle-like, it almost looks like a small pine at a glance. Hakea lehmanniana is found a little inland from the coast of Western Australia.
