i abhor how the dearly death of jane seymour and the death of edward vi is often seen as a ‘gotcha’ for elizabeth and anne boleyn fans. it’s partially my fault but on tiktok and even youtube, i come across posts like
'henry killed anne and got with jane seymour because she (anne) couldn’t give him a son. but jane died after giving birth to henry’s much wanted son, and edward died young. however elizabeth reigned longer than edward and was more influential than him’.
or 'yeah anne died and 'lost’ against jane seymour, but she actually won. anne gave england the greatest ruler, and jane gave henry a son that died when he was 15’.
and it’s like, people have this weird hatred for edward and use his death as a point of humor while boosting elizabeth. it’s as if, because anne was executed and henry married jane and she had edward, jane and edward are punished, and that punishment - which is death - is seen as something that they deserved, at least from the perspective of anne and elizabeth fans. and it’s weird
because why are we making fun or, saying a woman who died due to complications with child birth, one of the most painful and grotesque ways to go, 'deserved’ it, just because she dared to breathe the same air as anne boleyn.
why are we saying edward, the one who made it possible for england to have a fully protestant government, 'deserved’ his death and that he was a 'loser’ while elizabeth was a winner? edward’s life and death were imo opinion extremely tragic and he died just as he was coming into his own shoes as a ruler. and even if i have issues with edward for his treatment of catholics in england, i still don’t think he deserved to die, i still think he is not given enough credit for being the first protestant king, and the first king of england to build a government based on protestant 'progressive’ ideals, that elizabeth built off of?
it’s the same way elizabeth and anne fans make fun of mary for being 'crazy’ when elizabeth is by far the bloodier one.
this is just–these are not fictional characters. they were real people and the way some people talk about them, especially if they don’t like them, makes me think you guys think they’re a kpop group.
