i’m surprised i haven't seen more therians talking about kemono friends?

i can see why the “(thing) but cute anime girl” formula would drive people away, but it’s a really sweet and surprisingly educational show with a lot of love and passion poured into it. also basically 0 fanservice…? crazy!

it takes place in an abandoned safari park after the fall of mankind where most animals have mutated into humanoids with animal traits due to a weird substance that rains down from the sky after volcanic explosions. i dunno i’m just so charmed by the eerie beauty amidst decay and the whole prospect of nature reclaiming its domain, especially in a zoo/wildlife park setting

all of the characters still act and think more animal than human and talk a lot about their past lives as regular animals, and since they don’t have to worry about predation anymore they all just hang out together in their respective biomes. a lot of the interactions feel very reminiscent of the alterhuman community. like chevrotain will gush about how she loves the smell of wet grass and fog, or african elephant is eager to be a leader because she wants to be like the matriarch of the herd she was in when she was an animal..

they also have segments in every episode where they interview a random zoo about a character featured in the episode and i’m obsessed with it. and if you figure they probably won't feature your 'type, the franchise has at LEAST 500 animals in total. all around overwhelmingly charming series, surprisingly underrated. 10/10 would recommend for any and all animals. it’s kind of a shame it hasn’t gained more attention in the community

This is my favorite genre of Touhou gifs. Does anybody know where these are from?

They’re mockups for a hypothetical fanime that never actually came to fruition (and probably never will because these gifs are from the early 2000′s). I remember finding the original blog they were on but it might have been deleted because I can’t find it anymore.

However I can upload the rest of what I found there.

Might as well share what I know as well. What @plastic-dragon already said is likely correct although to be more specific, it could have been a PV for a song instead of a fanime like Memories of Phantasm.

The animations were based on the events of official works and the work off of ZUN’s and Aki Eda’s character designs. They were likely all made prior to the release of UFO, only covering the events of EoSD up to MoF.

You’re probably wondering what the heck is Nazrin doing here then. Well, that’s cause that gif is actually unrelated. That animation was made in 2014 by an artist that I’m 80% positive is unrelated to the other material. You can find their pixiv here:

Now, I don’t have a source for any of the other gifs since there isn’t one. I don’t think anyone knows where they are from. Many (if not all) of these gifs have been uploaded onto danbooru back in 2009, but even then no one knew the source. All of these gifs have been in the “Deleted” category as they havent been approved by the mods on review (possibly due to the total lack of source).

Some of the gifs come from ImageShack, but the account that uploaded those gifs is gone since the account wasn’t maintained after ImageShack became a subscription service in 2014.

It’s pretty clear that a source would be impossible to find…..at least on the internet that is.

My research has led to the current theory there was never an online source to begin with. These gifs were probably ripped from a CD that was distributed at either Comiket or M3 by some unknown doujin circle doing animations.

The only suspect I have right now is the long since defunct doujin circle by the name of 東方活動写真館 (Touhou Kinema Kan) They produced some pretty insane animations in a small variety of different styles when they were around. Unfortunately, their website is gone and I don’t have the time to track down all artists involved in Kinema Kan.

however, I do know they distributed several CDs of their works and one of those CDs may very well be the source of all these gifs.
