I feel like all the "they broke weird al" "weird al got serious we're so cooked" comments about the killing in the name cover are missing the point. that is not a broken man. comedy is politics. comedy has always been politics. weird al has been satirizing politics for a long time because he knows the court jester can say to the king what other people can't. by doing a serious cover of an explicitly anti-establishment song that his gen x and millennial audience knows by heart when he's built his career on parody, he's saying this can't be satirized anymore and he's saying it in a very deliberate way that his audience will understand. those aren't the actions of a broken man, they're the actions of a man who is trying to tell you something. are we going to listen?

This.
This is why people who stay in my life are neurodiverse like me!
this!! I swear I lost like all my friendships bc of this, like I had a group of friends in hs that one day I realized βhuh I havenβt talked to this people in a whileβ and popped in to say hi and they were all awkward?? because they hadnβt seen me in a while?? and thatβs when I realized that friendship works different for them?? I was like yeah I havenβt talked to you in like four months but itβs not like Iβve forgotten about y'all why would anything change, and they were all like we havenβt talked to you in four months why are you here again acting like nothing happened? and it was really confusing for me

YEAH! THAT!
Also I have a thing where I just put the people on pause. If I donβt see them or contact them, my brain kinda put them in stasis. I donβt think about them nor misses them, and I stay on what I last knew about them (how they look, what they study/work). So when we meet again Iβm like βwait, youβve aged?β and I have the same familiarity with them thanI had before.
Anyway all my mutuals I havenβt messaged in forever - this is why
oh my gods this makes so much sense??? there are people who i havenβt talked to at all for literally over a year and weβll pick up like nothing happened, but for their people itβs just likeβ¦β¦ falling apart but onesided???? i think weβre still on the same level but actually weβre strangers??
Ohhhhhh
OHHHHHHHHHβ¦.
Ok but listen, on the other side of this, as a person who moved hundreds of miles away from everyone i knew and then became a hermit for several years, it was SUCH A FUCKING RELIEF to get in contact with an old friend and have him be like, βmy friendship levels do not degrade, so in my mind we are still awesome close buddiesβ and i almost fkn cried. I thought he would be mad or would have moved on because i had slacked on my reaching out to him and staying in touch and doing all the friendship things. But NOPE. 800 miles of distance, depression, and life changing circumstances didnt steal our friendship and i am SO GRATEFUL.
#came back to tumblr after four years #lottie and I immediately went like that spiderman meme yknow tags via @rudjedet
I have literally no friendship degradation whatsoever. I will not have spoken to someone for 5 years or more, and theyβre still as much a friend to me as if I had only seen them yesterday. Iβm just very bad at communicating if someone is not in my direct orbit. So when Sonja reappeared on this site I basically screeched into her notes like a banshee because I was delighted and we picked straight back up where weβd left off.
Happy to go on the record that I donβt expect regular contact and will welcome hearing from people after a long time
Holy shit, I didnβt actually realize this was a Thing.
Darn so thatβs why my social life is Like That huh
β¦ok, so this makes too much sense to meβ¦ Fuckβ¦ Do I actually need to get tested at 29?

"Friends outside of Minnesota please read. I'm sharing a post written by a personal friend and medical doctor: Friends outside MN, you need to know what is happening here. Everyone knows that ICE shot and killed a woman here on Wednesday. But thatβs not the only thing thatβs going on:
- ICE agents are cruising areas with immigrant-owned businesses, and kidnapping patrons and employees alike. Yesterday they abducted two US citizen employees at a suburban Target, one who was begging them to allow him to go get his passport to show them.
- ICE is going door to door in immigrant-heavy neighborhoods, asking residents where their immigrant neighbors live. Read that again. If it sounds like something out of your high school history textbook, thatβs because it is.
- ICE is targeting schools and school buses. They pepper sprayed teenagers and abducted two school staff members at the high school up the street from me on Wednesday. Police are literally escorting school buses to ensure children can get to school and home safely. The Minneapolis Public Schools have moved to virtual learning for the next 4 weeks because itβs unsafe for children or teachers to physically come to school.
- They are targeting hospitals and clinics. Patients are scared and are cancelling their appointments or just not showing up. Kids are missing their checkups and vaccines, folks arenβt getting their cancer care, etc.
- They are smashing windows in cars and homes.
- ICE is increasingly picking up Native Americansβagain, targeting folks based on skin color alone.
- They are arresting and beating legal observers. A friend of a friend had her arm broken yesterday. Folks are showing up at local hospitals, brought in in ICE custody, with severe injuries that are absolutely inconsistent with mechanism of injury reported by ICE. (Think: patient appears to have been beaten unconscious, while ICE agent says he slipped and fell.) I canβt emphasize enough that these ICE agents do not have warrants. There are 2,000+ agents here and they are simply hunting for anyone thatβs not white. It doesnβt matter if youβre a citizen or a green card holder, they will kidnap you first and ask questions later. But the community is fighting back.
- Protests are happening every day.
- Community groups have been leading know-your-rights sessions for months, often to packed venues.
- Whistles are being distributed by the thousands, carried on keychains and worn on coat zippers, always at the ready to be blown in warning if ICE is spotted.
- Drivers are following ICE vehicles, blaring their horns in warning.
- Businesses are locking their doors even while open to keep employees and customers safe. As I type this, Iβm standing guard at the locked door of our neighborhood burrito joint while I wait for my takeout order, so the employees can focus on their jobs. The place is packed with neighbors supporting this small business.
- Anti-ICE signs are posted everywhere. The community is making it crystal clear that ICE is not welcome here.
- Parents and neighbors are standing guard outside schools, organizing carpools, and escorting kids to and from school on foot.
- Parents of kids in Spanish-immersion daycare (there are a LOT of these daycares here!) are keeping their kids home so the teachers donβt have to take the risk of coming to work.
- Churches and community groups are holding fundraisers to buy and deliver groceries to families who donβt feel safe leaving home.
- Mutual aid money is going out to folks who canβt make rent because they canβt work or because a breadwinner was abducted, or who need a warm place to stay after their homeβs windows were smashed. THAT is what is happening here. This fight is ongoing and itβs horrifying to watch. But we are not backing down. To my friends in other cities and states, donβt think for a minute that this wonβt happen in your town. It will. Be ready. Learn from us, as we have learned from Portland and Chicago and New York. Fight back. Donβt let us get to the last line of Martin Niemollerβs poem.β -Grant Boulanger
Here's an AP news brief with a little more info. It's limited in the way major news outlets are right now but provides context that supports the personal account shared.
reblogging to make sure everyone knows whatβs happening here in my home, my little river city.
also so i can pull it up if i need to. though i canβt imagine iβd be conversing with someone who thinks ice are the good guys.
