The campaign, titled “domestic abuse in the LGBTQI+ community”, warned about how “controlling behaviour can turn a loving relationship into an abusive one”, and was shared by Police Scotland on social media last week.

But after being made aware of Rankin’s OnlyFans content, Police Scotland removed him from the campaign.

Rankin, who is known for his S&M and bondage-themed content, describes himself as a “kink creator”.

Speaking of the decision to pull his part in the domestic abuse campaign, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of an issue with our most recent domestic abuse advert, which was removed immediately as these concerns were reviewed.

“Proportionate checks were carried out in advance of the advert’s launch, however following a review of this matter, an additional level of vetting has now been introduced for anyone taking part in future campaigns.

“Different levels of vetting are available to us and are always used proportionately for the role or service being provided.”

[…] In a separate interview with STV News, Rankin argued that his adult work actually made him better placed to campaign on issues around consent.

“Since the ‘news’ broke about this, the only people who seem to be bothered by this ‘mistake’ are Police Scotland,” he said.

“I’ve had floods of people contacting me showing their support for me and wondering why a ‘sex worker’ can’t advocate [against] domestic abuse?

“I’m wondering that myself, although I’m more concerned with Police Scotland’s reaction considering the fact that out of the majority of people out there, wouldn’t a sex worker be the best person to know the difference between consent and non-consent?

“I make my living entirely on that point after all.”

Hey, in case you didn’t know it: Ao3 allows you to make bookmarks private.

And, in case you didn’t realize it: if you’re going to give the fics you bookmarked a letter grade, you SHOULD make your bookmarks private.

Actually, genuinely though, in case you didn’t know it: Ao3 shows authors all the tags and notes you make on any fic you publicly bookmark. Your notes are visible when I scroll through the public bookmarks on my works.

The only way an author has to stop seeing this is to mute you, so it’s kind of shitty to use bookmarks to say how you wished the author had killed both parts of the main pairing instead of giving them a happy ending (a real thing that has happened on two of my fics).

Authors can see a count of private bookmarks but not the notes or tags on those bookmarks, so if you have some commentary about hatereading your NOTP or want to make a note that the concept is good but the execution is poor, that’s an inside thought and should stay in the private bookmarks.

So, like, up until very recently, programming as an activity that people engage in has been defined by the fact that the computer does exactly what you tell it to do. All errors, all frustration on the humans end, ultimately boil down to the programmer misspecifying what they want the computer to do. But now, with so-called “vibe” coding, the computer will actively do things that you explicitly told it not to do.

Okay, but like, the AI saying that it “panicked instead thinking” is sending me. So, like, two things are going on here.

First, we have a neural net that is trained is receive a written request from a user, and then take actions on a computer system network based on it. The user inputs a series of characters, the neural net does a bunch of matrix operations on them, and then after x iterations of matrix multiplications, it “decides” what to do. To the extend that a neural net can think, it thought just as long and hard about this as it does anything else. In this case, it “chose” the wrong action. This is analogous to using neural nets to do classification on a data set. You have a bunch of rows of data. You have a bunch of rows of organized in columns, and some special variable that you want the neural net to guess. You input the data, the neural net does a bunch of matrix operations, and then it outputs its guess. Sometimes it guessed right, and sometimes it guessed wrong. The goal was to train the model to minimize wrong guesses. In this case, the AI “guessed wrong” about what the user wanted.

But there’s another thing that the AI is doing. For path dependent reasons, all artificial intelligence come bundled with a chatbot that’s trained to hold a conversation with the user. The user inputs text, and the AI responds with a reply that is “appropriate” to the conversation being had. Right now the AI is role playing a Person Who Just Fucked Up. “I panicked and didn’t think” is something that a person who just fucked up would say, so the chatbot says it.

This is why I think that the Helpful Chatbot model of AI is detrimental. It’s liable to confuse people and lead them to make incorrect inferences about what’s actually happening.

It’s funny because if these ‘ai artists’ put the same effort into learning art as they do into defending that generated slop, they’d actually be able to create many different anime girls with big titties without wasting half of a city’s water supply in an hour just to last 30 seconds gooning to that shit

Coca cola’s ai Christmas commercial took 70 THOUSAND prompts to generate, and I cannot recall a single scene after watching it because it was just generic slop with nothing authentic or memorable. the worst part is that the amount of time it took for editors to stitch it together could have been used to employ people who could probably use the money before the holidays AND their creativity wouldn’t be limited by what ai can recreate. not like they can’t afford it with their trillions of dollars in revenue.

image

look I’m not saying ai isn’t fun, it can create some unintentionally funny content and some of the art it recreates is cool. I can see the appeal of using ChatGPT for fast information rather than searching the web for hours, I see the appeal in roleplaying with it when you have no friends or you’re embarrassed. I’m saying that it goes against my morals. People getting put out of jobs, the water usage, mental health issues it causes, stolen artwork, the study that’s coming out showing we are losing a part of our brain function because it no longer has to work as hard, all of this is why I choose not to use ai.
