@coolabout-it

its all relative fiction
🧡🤍🩷
mainly tww / boygenius / lolitics / yjs / shitposts
she / they

this is now my primary blog (as of recently), so i felt it deserved an intro post!!

i’m grace , a raging lesbian who lives in england, and i mainly post about music / tv shows / politics . i speak english (duh) and french. on tumblr im mainly active in the west wing , uk lolitics, yellowjackets, programming , and boygenius related spaces. i currently have 1 fic posted on ao3 - about the West Wing.

tv/film:

my top 3 shows are the west wing, yellowjackets, and greys anatomy/ 911. im very obsessed with sapphic ships, e.g. cj/andy, kaimelia, mistynat. my top 3 films are conclave, blue jean, and you can live forever!! the main ‘theme’ of this blog is the west wing - i primarily post about cj, amy, and andy but i do talk about other characters. i’m currently on a rewatch, mid season 4 at the time of posting this, which my posts will generally reflect. my current top 5 are cj, amy, andy, charlie, and donna but i do have a soft spot for practically every character. specifically i do love Sorkin written Will, which is apparently not a very common opinion.

music:

some of my favourite artists are boygenius (incl. solo work), ethel cain, lorde, fightmaster, taylor swift, gracie abrams, hozier, girl in red, and maisie peters. by the end of 2025 i will have seen all of them live (so grateful)! so far in 2025 ive been to 9 concerts and have 4 more planned. the artists ive seen the most are lucy dacus (x4 not including boygenius), maisie peters (x3 and ive met her), gracie abrams (x3). i dont really ever shut up about concerts and take any opportunity to talk about them!

video games:

gaming has been my most consistent hobby since i was 4, and ive played a concerning amount of games !! my long term favourites are the sims, minecraft, stardew valley, roblox, and fortnite (dont even the last 2 are so embarrassing). however my more recent favourites (past 5 years) are tomb raider, life is strange, and the last of us.

other stuff i post about:

- my python programs (god bless the dutch for guido van rossum)

- literature

- politics (im a green party member)

- maths (im ranked top 0.06% - 0.03% for my age in the UK)

this blog is primarily about the west wing at the moment, but i do have a knack for shitposting!! and my dms are always open to talk about literally anything.

:)

"why do lesbians complain so much that huge amounts of people don't consider stories about two women to be interesting when they aren't even personally interested in being writers" - extremely measured and fair critique coming from someone who is definitely huge woman enjoyer

I’ve been listening to Halsey today and Alanis’ Interlude is making me think about cjcarol pining… I Mean!

maybeeee some sort of FWB situation and Carol finds herself lingering in CJ’s apartment or spacing out at work watching CJ bitch at people on the phone… she knows she should call it off before she catches Feelings but the nights they spend together are so rare already. Surelyyy this won’t become A Thing!!

(It does in fact become a thing. She and Donna get wine drunk and Carol cries into her glass about maybe falling in love with her boss. Donna can, uh. Relate!!)

Avatar

YES YES YES. they both agreed it was *just* to keep them satisfied while working in such a stressful environment, and without the fear of them being outed. instead of sleeping with random hookups, who could potentially leak it all to the press, they could just do it … together! (“Can’t get caught so we stiller than a statue”) as you said, it’s rare. it only happens every so often - after a really hard day where they both just dont want to think. and they dont want to be alone.

Bad news, think I’ll probably die before I have you” works soo well for them in a fwb situation!! carol knows that the chance of it actually becoming a *thing* is so so slim. even if they did officially get together, there would be so many problems they’d inevitably run into that could break them. and if that happened, carol wouldn’t just lose cj, she’d also lose her job. so its safer for it to just be fwb.

(donna and carol bonding over being in love with their bosses. yes please)

kicks my way into your ask box. what if joshdonna followed in andytoby’s footsteps. what if they loved each other but weren’t good for each other

oh my god … this is insane.. i love it. especially if it happened *years* down the line (specifically santos term 2) and they just don’t know what to do. donnas still the first lady’s CoS, and maybe doing law school on the side, and josh is the president’s CoS. and they both realise it isn’t working, but they blame it on their schedules at first. because of course it was hard, they really only saw eachother at work, and most of their time together at work was spent arguing. they just assume that their relationship would magically be fixed when theyre out of office, and have some more free time.

however, they both know deep down that the *core* reasons that their relationship isnt working arent just about the lack of time together. donna feels like josh still treats her like his assistant, and josh feels like donna has completely moved on from him and the chance he gave her when he hired donna. they both still love eachother, and care deeply about eachother, but they just wouldn’t survive being together. neither of them want to be the one to bring it up though, because a messy breakup (or divorce?) is the **last** thing either of them need to be dealing with.

eventually, they come to a mutual understanding that they wont work. maybe they finally confront eachother, or maybe they both just know how the other feels. so it slowly fades off. they stop sleeping at eachother’s apartments. donna ‘accidentally’ leaves her key to josh’s flat on his desk. josh ‘forgets’ to return it to her. it all happens so slowly that no one realises, until helen catches the look on donna’s face when she has to go and see josh. and then cj conveniently calls donna that night (the idea of helen and cj being close is so dear to me), and everything comes out. cj tells her she *has* to end it with josh so it can end as amicably as possible. then queue a few nights in a row in which donna gets very drunk with cj and the assistants. and josh gets equally as drunk with sam and cj.

and there are just so many possibilities. like what if it ended because donna realised she was gay. or josh. idk anyone in tww could be gay. or what if they already had a kid when it ended (if they decided to have kids). or 3 weeks into the first santos administration. i’m obsessed with this.

Ohhh Grace you are a Genius (and so is K for suggesting it because OUCH)

I love this. I think in particular by tying it to that same kind of thing Toby and Andy have where they can’t be married but clearly love each other so much, it works so well? Donna will always love Josh as much as Josh will always love Donna, but there IS a chance it just doesn’t work. Andy and Toby got married and truly thought they would be happy together for the rest of their lives. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out and that’s no one’s and everyone’s fault at the same time.

They go into it with such certainty that if they got through that first rough patch during the transition, the rest will be okay. They love each other, what could go wrong. They want to make it work, so why wouldn’t they be able to make it work? And then over time just… it doesn’t. And that’s heartbreaking for everyone involved. Especially if they’re married! Everyone would have been so excited for them, so happy for them, and here they are just… throwing it all away?

Which does bring me back to if it’s like Andy/Toby?? And OH especially the “donna feels like josh still treats her like his assistant, and josh feels like donna has completely moved on from him and the chance he gave her when he hired donna” of it. Because I do think that while for Andy and Toby a huge part was obviousl the Sadness and the infertility, there’s a not inconsiderate amount of problems between them that might stem from Toby’s occasional patronisation? He’s a bit of a chauvinist, and I can see that being something that Andy’s fine with at 28 and becomes very bothersome at 34; a woman learns her full worth and the way her husband talks to her stops being cute and protective and starts being tiresome and kind of mean. And OH the idea of Donna outgrowing Josh like that without either of them realising it until it’s too late? To still be seen as his assistant even in their marriage? When he loves her so much but that vibe is just still there?

(Sidenote I love that CJ gets to get drunk with Donna AND Josh in this. There’s no choosing sides! CJ could stay best friends with Toby while also hooking up with his ex wife/her ex girlfriend, she can be a dear friend to both Donna and Josh through this divorce.)

But yes! And I briefly mentioned it before but in this context ESPECIALLY the potential of Donna and Andy is so good. Because like… I can see Andy being encouraging in a cautionary way during the Middle East delegation, about Donna’s feelings for Josh. She knows what it’s like to fall in love with a slightly older established man in politics and how beautiful it can be and how happy it can make you and also the heartbreak but the damage to HER reputation (because times might have changed a bit, but Donna is still going to face harsher judgement for this divorce than Josh will, she just is) and being so genuinely happy for her and Josh at the wedding because she really is so happy that Donna can have this happily ever after. And oh she knows what it’s like to make the choice to divorce a man you’re still in love with. I can see Donna talking to Andy specifically BEFORE she talks to Josh, before she even brings it up with Helen or CJ (btw the idea of them being friends?? Yes actually) because Helen’s so happily married and CJ is Different when it comes to relationships but oh Andy knows this exact scenario.

ESPECIALLY if there’s kids involved! And I can see Josh and Donna being much better about true equal custody, even about Josh maybe taking the kids MORE often while Donna’s still in law school, better than Toby and Andy did it, but it just adds so much complication to it. While also providing a great… base level of respect throughout the whole thing? No matter the hurt feelings or the frustrations, the children are so important, and that makes it easier to stay level-headed in a way for both of them, and it really drives home that in the end they DO love each other, so very much. They just can’t be married.

There's a new Sam/Toby fic on AO3 that's proudly and openly completely AI generated and I just want to say there is Such irony in posting fic about really talented writers entirely generated by AI. These characters' passion in life is writing, the art of writing and the human touch of it and how important that sense of humanity is to the political speeches they write. It's kind of funny in a depressing way to try and capture that with a robot 😅😭

What's a character you think is severely underrated?

Avatar

This might be controversial but Donna! I know that she’s popular, but I think she’s underrated in the sense that a lot of the hype around her character is linked to Josh and her relationship with him. Especially in the fandom outside of tumblr, a *lot* of the conversations around Donna are solely about Josh. And if they aren’t about Josh, theres a high chance theyre about one of her boyfriends/flings/ a man.

I just searched for “Donna” on the tww subreddit, and 7/10 first posts to show up were about her relationship with Josh, and another one was about her dating life. So I would count her as underrated?? And obviously it’s not just the fandoms fault, the show also fails to flesh out Donna and her life separate from the men in the show.

Everything we see about Donna that separate from Josh is so great aswell! Her friendships with CJ, and the other assistants, in particular. It just makes me want to know more about her life soo badly. And I think a lot of people do feel similarly, but the majority of Donna related conversations are about Josh. And I like Donna/Josh! I think it’s a great ship! I just think there is so much more to Donna that people could be discussing? Or writing about.

No actually this is so real cause !! I love Donna! But it's hard to have a conversation about her that doesn't devolve into "and she loves Josh so much and will have all his children asap" and I always feel like I'm such a bitch for not always wanting to have that particular conversation so I struggled to just?? Talk about Donna?? For an embarrassingly long time?

But there IS so much to Donna 😭 so so much cool stuff that doesn't have to have anything to do with Josh or Cliff or the soldier guy. And I would so love Anything more on all her different potential friendships and relationships (like on the assistants? I am so fond of the idea that some of them are very good friends!! And some of them tolerate each other. And that's *interesting*) and just? Her family? Her plans for after the administration that aren't just about when she has to get pregnant for the first time (and !! That's interesting too! God knows I love stories about pregnancy and motherhood! I don't mean to disparage that) but also when and if she'll get her college degree? If she'll go to law school? Run for Congress? How do her working relationships with women like Joey and Amy and Angela and Andy and CJ change when she's not Josh's assistant anymore but a woman in politics on her own merits? There is So much

This this this!! I’ve also struggled to talk about Donna because for so long it felt like I had nothing to say. And even now when I do, I’m sometimes kind of stuck talking about whatever headcanons I have/someone has, which are not related to canon in any real way? which is great! but there is 100% a gap when it comes to headcanons which are extrapolated from actual canon events with Donna. And thats sad cause there really is soo much I could actually be talking about, its just less obvious (to me) than it is with other characters! But she really is such an interesting character that i love with my whole heart

kate harper and her sharp little bangs and cute little earrings... love her sm.

Consider: Amy/Andy with Amy running Andy for President post administration

Avatar

YES. I will *gladly* consider this. AmyAndy is a political power couple and they deserve this. If anyone could be the first female us president, it would be Andy. If anyone could get the first female president elected, it would be Andy. And the idea of a sapphic president … yes please

In my opinion it would start as a joke?? Andy’s complaining about how she doesn’t feel as satisfied as she used to in her job. Amy just tells her to quit and do what she *really* wants to do, to which Andy says something like “ah yes ill just go run for president really quick”. and Amy takes it seriously because she’s been waiting for this moment ever since she met Andy. then suddenly theyre both planning how it could actually work. it becomes real so quickly, and neither of them will back down because they are COMMITTED. obviously andy gets the democratic nomination (even though it is incredibly difficult, and almost kills both of them due to how much caffeine they consumed and how many people they argued with). when molly and huck find out, they tell all of their friends that their mum is gonna be the next president. Amy and Andy would rather die than let the twins down, so they simply accepted they had to win the election!

also the idea of amy and andy sneaking around on the campaign and failing to convince any of their staffers that they were just friends

when andy wins they offer CJ a job. obviously. as either a special advisor or maybe press secretary again? and of course she takes it. because i want the 3 most powerful women in the us to all be gay. and because theyve all been together, and now theyre trying to run a country together whilst 2 of them are dating. which might kill off all of them before they even start governing. If Amy takes CoS… she then has to manage dating the president, and advising her, and helping her raise her children (maybe molly and huck are teenagers by now, but still)

If you could have dropped one character in season four instead of Sam Seaborn, who would it have been?

Avatar

I wish sam didnt leave, however, out of the main cast, i would probably still choose for sam to be the one who left? which is very influenced by the fact that im used to sam not being there post s4. I’m very neutral on sam leaving! Don’t get me wrong, I like his character, but I’ve never been overly upset that he left? I think the way they did his exit was bad. Although it was unrealistic for him to win the race, I wish he didnt just … disappear until season 7. But it felt fitting to me that someone of the main cast left around that time! Working for the president would be hard, and it’s reasonable that someone would’ve left at some point to persue some other career. And sam leaving to run for congress makes me the most sense to me out of any of the other main cast leaving for other reasons.

If I **had** to choose someone to leave instead of Sam, it would probably be Toby. Only through a process of elimination though. I just like the other main characters at that time more! I still like Toby, I think he’s a good character, and I don’t wish he was written off. I would rather save the rest of the main cast! The president is pretty crucial to keep on, Leo is also integral (and I love the storyline about CJ being picked to be the CoS by him), Josh, CJ, Charlie, and Donna are all some of my favourite characters (especially Charlie and CJ in the earlier seasons), and Will Bailey wouldnt be there (or atleast probably not main cast) if Sam didn’t leave. So that just leaves Toby! But I do think Sam leaving was the right choice, and all the other main characters have storylines further down the line which I looove. And i’m sure sam would have good plots if he had stayed on. But I cant miss what i never had so? bye bye sam seaborn unfortunately
