constantly in awe of the indomitable spirit of homestuck. it's been eternally, publicly branded as dogshit, the most any layman knows about it in 2025 is sharpie bath mythology, there truly is no hope for its public image, and yet. to this day you will never find an internet comment section without a nepeta profile picture. the mentally ill tweenagers of the world are still using typing quirks. tamsyn muir is putting out New York Times Bestsellers with her partner's pesterchum tag written in the dedication along with "<>" . you can't fight it
some bard named Gerardus Arthur of Waye: damn that’s sucks i should go write music
thinking about how when i started disco elysium, i was really lost as to how to get out of the starting room and eventually had to ask friends for help. i was completely bewildered because nobody i asked could explain why i was having so much trouble leaving the room. everyone claimed that the room had a door, but it just looked like an isolated hotel room bounded by a black void to me. i wound up slowly trudging around interacting with everything in the room and eventually died to the ceiling fan. i had been expecting the game to be kind of avant-garde and cerebral, so i kept an open mind and kept trying, desperately hoping to find some profundity in my fruitless search for a door that everyone insisted was there. only later did i learn that the game wasn’t meant to run on a 2011 imac and the door to the room hadn’t rendered

All the kids being so extra during the Chūnin exams and the procters are just like “what the fuck”

this is just what being in middle school is like
what if orpheus was butch and she unclipped her carabiner and held it out behind her and then eurydice clipped it onto her belt loop and then orpheus didnt have to look back because she could hear eurydice jingle jangling behind her. follow me for more dyke solutions to famous tragic literature

So Discord just put out a poll about the use of AI on their platform.
We absolutely cannot let them even consider implementing this. It's a few simple multiple-choice questions, and an optional essay at the end. Be polite, but be extremely firm about this.
i have made like 57 reddit throwaway accounts in my life because my only use for reddit is to login once a year to pose niche questions to a sub i assume is compromised of mostly autistic dads desperate to impart their knowledge upon anyone who will listen. when i got my first fisheries job the equipment list my boss sent me just said “knife.” i emailed back asking what kind of knife and he replied “any knife.” i got on reddit and went to some sub about fish and i said “i got a hatchery job in alaska. what knife do i need for multipurpose use. a knife that does it all.” one guy responded in ten minutes breaking down everything about knives & salmon work. gave me a better idea of my job than the interview did. then he recommended a single knife and like twenty other people replied after him “this is the correct knife. no notes.”
bought it. pretty good knife, no notes.
One of the reasons why I'm so annoying about countering the way people talk about "the environmental impact of AI" on here is because I'm completely convinced that in a few years the AI industry bubble is going to pop, and all those datacenters are still gonna be running and consuming just as much electricity and water for non-AI related purposes (same as they always have, because turns out "datacenter" doesn't mean "big chatgpt building") and a good 90% of people who are currently so so so so so so so terribly concerned about the water and energy consumption of internet datacenters are never going to think about the issue ever again. Because since their concern started and ended with the (incorrect) idea that AI is apparently uniquely environmentally destructive compared to anything else you use the internet for, in their mind the environmental issue was only ever that those datacenters were being used to run midjourney and chatgpt and whatever else.
This is exactly the thing that bothers me. There is a ton of things with computers that already ran big, big data centers with similar environmental impact, but nobody talked about it. It is not as if AI is somehow unique in the way that it uses ressources. The amount it uses right now is because there is an AI bubble so there is a lot of AI data centers. But the data center itself it not really different from anything else that needed giant serverfarms to run.
Creating AAA video games, creating movie VFX, and stuff like that also was already very, very energy intensive, but that nobody talks about.
We should talk about how AI is trained on stolen data, how it impacts our ability to learn, how people get AI-psychosis, and how it is destroying jobs and shoveling even more money into the pockets of the rich.
The environmental thing is not unique to AI.
King shit ngl
