As someone with violent and even homicidal ideation, I think the choices people make are far more indicative of their moral character than anything else.
Thoughts mean nothing. Thoughtcrimes don't exist, especially because what we think is out of our control. If you're not running around hurting people or advocating for others hurting people, then you're fine. For the love of fuck stop stigmatizing mental illnesses and and the unsavory symptoms some of them tend to have.
People can't help it whether they have intrusive thoughts or even fantasize about violence. It doesn't mean we're going to do it. I'm not going to apologize for my symptoms nor does someone finding them off-putting give them a license to be ableist/sanist about it.
this all the way. i interviewed a kid in jail not long ago - he was barely an adult - to get him set up with a PD, and i ask him how he got charged with terroristic threats.
this kid tells me that he was journaling - something his therapist told him to do - and wrote down that he gets suicidal and homicidal thoughts when he gets angry. his mom bullied him into reading his journal and then called the cops bc apparently this constitutes threatening his mom and whole family’s lives?? and the complaint literally says that it was written down and nothing was ever said to anyone, and that the journal had more in it about calming down etc etc.
and i just had to take a minute to breathe through my nose bc i wanted to rant and rave. imagine somebody else reading your fucking private journal that your therapist *asked you to keep* to help manage moods, interpreted your private thoughts as an imminent threat worthy of *police intervention*, and then gets you thrown in jail for something you didn’t do???
it’s fucking disgusting how society treats ppl who have homicidal/suicidal thoughts, especially if you’ have one of the Scary Bad People diseases like schizophrenia, bipolar, etc.
