MOOD.
The end of Northtown Books; the best bookstore in Northern California.
Seven businesses were destroyed right off Arcata Plaza. Apartments on the second floor were destroyed. No one died.
Strong winds led to fast fire growth through the older buildings. A natural gas manifold serving the structures was damaged, and couldn’t be shut down. PG&E crews had to dig out the intersection of 10th and H Streets and crimp the gas line to shut off the gas.
No word on if Northtown Books will try to rebuild.
