It sure would be nice if we didn't have to explain how to read the story anymore. Hopefully things work out and that actually happens. But if for some reason it doesn't, I'm patient.

The only person who knows the answer to that question isn't communicating to us. The last update took two years to release, it's been one year since then. While I hope this project is continued at some point, I'm also not holding my breathe. Just follow the project and maybe you'll be surprised by an update one day.

If you're seeing a gap in the story, it is caused by using the default start option instead of manually selecting the first chapter in each build. It's counter to what most vn readers expect, but the start option launches the newest chapter instead of the first. The second build picks up right from where Ranok gets home.

The story is in three separate parts right now. First start with build 4.5.8, then build 0.13, followed by build 0.14. Build 4.8.1 can be ignored as it is included with the other files.

Build 0.13 defaults to chapter 13, so you have to manually select the earlier chapters when you first run it. Don't use start to begin that build.

I would believe you were actually trying to help other people if your comment was  directed at other people and read more like, "Hey, I don't think Kael is communicating with us enough. Reconsider providing financial support to this vn until we get better updates and see more progress being made." That would be a fair comment to make and actually helpful to others, though we can see the lack of communication and updates and don't need such advice.

Instead, you directed your comment at Kael and made it read as, "I just remembered you exist and wanted to say something mean." If Kael claiming people are being mean to him is a problem, then you are feeding that problem. If you make a mean comment, even if it's true, then you have just provided evidence of people being mean. Because that's what you are doing.

You didn't come here to make things better, you came here to make things worse.

By going out of your way to post an inflammatory comment on a project you clearly don't care about anymore, you are doing some of the exact same things you said Kael was doing. You think you are a better person and thus the ends justify the means, but the fact remains that the whole reason you made that post was to try to weaponize community members. I called out your post because you are doing something you yourself think is horrible.

As I said before, I'm not defending Kael. I already knew everything you mentioned, it's very easy to find that info. I can appreciate an artwork even when I don't appreciate the artist. Nobody looks at this vn and thinks it's a wise investment. You are not going to teach Kael a lesson by doing the same things. But you are making yourself a little bit more like the Kael you don't like by doing this.

Maybe let people decide for themselves what this vn is worth to them. If you're going to criticize someone, do so for something they actually did. (Kael has made mistakes, but nothing even remotely close to gaslighting.) Nobody needed a reminder that it's been a while since the last update. We can see.

2 out of 5 is a lot when it shows how much effort you'll put into tearing someone down. If you're going to make half your comments on the site complaints about how someone hasn't updated, then the least you could do is say thank you when they do update. You didn't.

Plenty of people have been making fair criticisms here. You went too far. You have now stated that the whole point of your post was to try to get people to stop supporting this vn. I would say that's pretty horrible. I'll say it again, let people decide for themselves what this vn is worth to them.

What gaslighting? Poor customer service and brand management, sure. But there's no gaslighting here. That would require communication.

I'm obviously not defending Kael,  but what was the point of this comment? Why is attacking the creator of the project your response to being reminded that something exists? Why are 40% of your posts on this site attacks on Kael, and none of them supportive?

I know you think you're helping, but you're doing more harm than good. I happen to agree that Kael doesn't owe anyone an update or explanation for any delays. I also think that anyone who is upset about the lack of updates is justified in feeling so.

But the number of people voicing displeasure about the updates is still very much a tiny minority. Most people are simply quietly waiting, because this is the nature of VNs.

I just want you to think about how a toxic argument like the one you have started could  drive off potential new readers who might take one look at this comment section trying to find help in understanding how to read the story in its current state, and leave because the commenters are being very unpleasant and cruel to eachother.

I have this issue too. The itch client needs proper version numbers on the game files to work correctly. Right now it can't figure out your game's files, so it's throwing a message saying there are no compatible versions. This affects new installs as well.

You can ignore the chapter 8 standalone. It's part of the 0.13 build where it's chapter 10 now. Build 0.13 picks up exactly where build 4.5.8 ended. There's nothing else between.

The next part of the story is in the 0.13 build. You have to manually select chapter 9 to resume the story in the right place. If you just click on start it jumps you into chapter 13. Really threw me for a loop and I ended up doing the same search as you trying to finding the missing parts.

Chapter 7 is part of the 4.5.8 build. The 4.7.1 build was a stand-alone version of the chapter. Don't worry about the version numbers, you aren't missing any part of the story.
