i think fanfic writers need to get more comfortable with magic and whimsy and things not being explained. i feel like so often what makes a fantastical fic premise fall apart is that the writer feels the need to explain everything and create a very logical world even when that is not in their best interest. hanahaki is silly as a medical condition but makes perfect sense as a fairytale curse. soulmate AUs get real goofy real fast but would imo often be less so if instead of "this happens to everyone in the world always and it follows these exact rules" it was "this is happening to these specific people, uniquely and inexplicably." i'm gonna be extremely vague here bc this is a good fic and i don't wanna be mean about it but there's this one time loop fic i've read so many times (bc i love it) and every time i think god i wish they hadn't felt the need to do Time Loop Worldbuilding with clear established rules instead of just letting this be a random shocking event. actually time travel and time loop fics in particular tend to really fall apart for me when they try to establish clear internal logic (unless they happen to be in a setting that can easily accommodate that). and listen i'm a hard magic girlie i love clear worldbuilding i love rules and logic but 1) it often feels like people are just doing this in fic because they feel they have to rather than because they have a good idea and 2) i'm really sorry but a lot of fanfic writers are just simply bad at worldbuilding and should not be doing it
