Even Dreams Are Full Of Broken Things

@dangertiefling

So my sister wants to start sewing more, because

a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.

b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton

c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance

So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.

And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’

And I, of course, crashed into the group text like “GET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR U” and honestly I’m thrilled about this

“Where did u get all this”

“Bets, u know I’m a 15th degree blackbelt of buying shit on the internet”

“oh yeah tru”

Op can may we inquire about the website list

cotton and Silk thread; https://redrockthreads.com/

Silk fabric (THE best place to get silk lining fabrics and raw silk fabric):https://www.dharmatrading.com/

A varying assortment of wool and silk and cotton and even some leather, use coupon code  spring2020 for 50% off your full order, worked yesterday when I bought some stuff there; https://metrotextilesnyc.com/

Wool. You want wool coating for under $20 a yard? Sure you do. It’s here. Not a huge variety of colors, most are black or brown, but hey https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/Catalog?refinementIds=4096748&Keyword=wool&pageSize=16

I don’t know a lot about sewing, but I want to make or have my mom make some linen pants & shirts for when I’m watering, because it gets to 105 here and we have mosquitos so I need to be covered. What type of linen do I buy? Also, linen pajama shorts, yes/no?

(I’ve been wearing my renfaire pants which are a linen mix, I think. But the frikking mosquitos that hide in the tomatoes get my arms)

Medium weight is what I’d go with.

And linen pajama shorts is a HARD yes.

Renaissance Fabrics is good for all sorts of things

Mood doesn’t specialize in natural fabrics but they do have basically every fabric ever made so

For wools, I cannot recommend Woolsome enough! They’re a bit more expensive then the above links, but they have a spectacular range of colours and weights, as well as diamond pattern and herringbone weaves. They also have a range of linens, though not as extensive.

Tiedtohistory.com has sheer voile linen

The Linen Lab has a variety of weaves, weights, and colors available

Period Fabric has a variety of wools, but switch to the full website if you’re on mobile

I need these as a reference for the future whenever I can get a sewing machine

About bosmeri behaviour

I think about bosmeri society a lot when I'm drawing, I have for the past 5 years built up a bosmeri tribe of my own from which one of my OCs, Engo is from!

I haven't shared much about it online however, just discussed it with a few friends but throughout the journey of said tribe growing both naturally and by me adding in some of my favourite elements and writing about it in personal journals I have accumulated more fun things to add to the general bosmer headcanons list!

Note: I have written these to read as facts but they are only headcanons!

Facial expressions are important

Due to the high capacity of meat and animal products in the Valenwood diet, bosmer naturally have sharper teeth than their cousins. Paired with how bosmer were first intended to have been more animalistic, it's only natural that body language has immense weight within communicating with their kin
Maintaining eye-contact is a sign of fearlessness and strength, and most importantly confidence to the bosmer, the most popular and respected Treethanes are known for this, and they use it to their tribes advantage in situations where they need to make deals with other tribes, the monarchy or other negotiations
Male bosmer will also use bucking motions for intimidation, especially if they feel they are at an advantage or their target either lacks antlers, or have ones smaller than theirs
Getting back to the teeth, smiling with both your top and bottom teeth is also seen as a sign of intimidation, and a gesture which motions the recipient to agree to something or they will face consequences. Because of this, bosmer have adapted to sticking a bit of their tongues out between their teeth when doing a full tooth smile, which signals genuine joy

Grooming eachother is an act of love

The bosmer love to love, be it romantic, platonic, parental, they have you covered. Since there are plenty of branches, twigs, thorns and other things you can get stuck on, hair care is extremely important for those who aren't rocking it short
Friends, family members, partners and fellow tribesmen will often brush eachothers hair, aswell as braid it, untangle or tangle it, pick out anything that's gotten stuck in it, and decorate it aswell as eachothers antlers if the bond is strong
Antlers are seriously sensitive, yanking on ones antler will trigger and instinctive adrenaline spike, and make the bosmer start bucking. However close friends and romantic partners will have an easier time at this since they have a stronger bond and know how to be more gentle with eachothers antlers
Since bosmer drop their antlers seasonally, they will brush their own and/or eachothers antlers when they are velvety to ease with the new or about-to-fall-off skin that itches

Everyone is family

This isn't just tied to bosmer, however within Valenwood it is commonplace that other bosmer will refer to other bosmer they meet as "brother", "sister" etc. Even though some tribes have quarrel with eachother they know that despite it all they are all stil children of The Green and continue to refer to eachother with familial terms
The Green Lady and Silvenar are referred to as mother and father by everyone (I feel like this is actually somewhat canon)
In everyday life there is a strong sense of togetherness and strangers will help eachother out even in mundane tasks. Conversation picks up quickly, and suddenly, but it always feels natural
Tribes will take in anyone who is in need of a home or community, no matter what walk of life they come from

I love these headcannons a lot, especially since I main Bosmer and identify closely with them!

Soo i might end up homeless. I can't afford rent because of the price of electric shot up because of a cold January. I rent a bedroom in some student apartments (im not a student, but they accepted me anyways). My car doesn't have heat, and I live in Michigan. I can do art commissions, i just need help. This is my caard:

It's always a little awkward when people see my obsession with TES and then assume that I'm going to like whatever fantasy franchise they recommend to me just as much.

Because, you know, my favorite elements of TES are the ones it DOESN'T have in common with most other media products in the genre.

boethiah and almalexia if they were strangely sapphic or something

So I'm hoping to do art commissions. I'm not the best at "selling myself," as people say, but I'm not terrible at drawing. I can do digital and traditional, but my traditional is almost always greyscale/black and white with line work, stippling, and detail. Digital can definitely be done in color! I am open to drawing OCs, fan characters, favorite characters, and the like. I'm not experienced in anthro art, but I can certainly attempt. I'd say I can do Busts and 3/4ths body for $45-50 (depending on digital or traditional, the extra $5 for shipping purposes if you wanted the original piece, if traditional). $75-80 for full body, but no background ($90-$95 if a colored traditional). And $100-120 for full body plus background (the extra $20 goes to complexity or a full color traditional). I will do a $10 fee for NSFW images (no minors/cub or anything illegal). I can do cash app, Venmo, and PayPal

I've included some examples of my work, the two that aren't a part of the wizard/dino pic are my personal OCs
