Hey, gentle reminder that advertising a movie with racist ragebait is still enough reason not to want to support it, even if it were to turn out to be a whole meta commentary on how Wuthering Heights is perceived in popular culture.

Thank you.

saw someone say that "people with a sense of humor" will enjoy the Wuthering Whites movie, which... just... I don't care if you think it's going to be "so bad it's good," I don't care if you think it's going to be fun, silly camp. Insisting that a sense of humor is what separates people capable of enjoying that racist trashfire from those hurt and upset by it reeks of the "can't you take a joke" defense of bigotry

Very interesting that the name and identity of the ICE agent who shot Renee Good has not been publicized but her name, identity and life are being picked apart by Republicans on social media. Who the fuck is that guy? How long has he been an agent? Does he have a history of escalating to violence immediately? What is his misconduct history? He is a sack of shit regardless, by virtue of being an ICE agent but I don’t understand (I do understand) why he gets privacy and her and her family do not.

Cemeteries are not wastes of space. Historical cemeteries ESPECIALLY are not wastes of space. The fact developers are continuously foaming at the mouth to destroy them and put a strip mall up in their place should make you even more determined to help maintain them. In urban areas, they are a haven for wildlife. They are a green space. If you are too afraid of death to utilize them for that purpose, that is on you.

I don't dislike wuthering heights 2026 because the costumes are inaccurate, I dislike it because they fucking whitewashed Heathcliff!!

wuthering heights discourse making the rounds again but it truly is hilarious how self defeating it is to go "umm heathcliff was most likely irish or italian, there's no way he was ACTUALLY of color, be real. british people back then didn't even know what indians looked like (REAL THING I SAW SOMEONE SAY)" as if the guy oppressing heathcliff isn't cast as south asian for the movie

like. the intended audience of the movie will be watching assorted whites heathcliff here be oppressed by pakistani linton and think "wow, he's just like me, i too am oppressed by the evil browns who have it much better than me!"

moments like these it really feels like a humiliation ritual to be a POC film buff where you have to accept it's not a bug, but a feature of hollywood that you can still get away with this in current year lol

Fennel's Wuthering Heights is about to become THE most racist movie adaptation of this book to date. Whitewashing Heathcliff is unfortunately nothing new, but this is a movie that accepts the existence of people of color only so long as they're relegated to roles of servants and placeholder characters, which is the complete opposite of what the story is about. It's the same old idea of poc being side characters and narrative ladders for white characters to step on in order to be in the spotlight and drive the story. Lately there's been a lot of discussion about the "disposable poc love interest" trope (it's actually "the disposable black girlfriend" trope due to the consistency to which this keeps happening to black female characters, but other poc characters are often victims of this too), which is basically when a poc character will serve as love interest for the white main character for a short time until they get together with their one true love (another white character) and the poc gets written aside/off. Wuthering Heights was a story that subverted this problematic trope even before it was a thing. Here the placeholder love interest is a white privileged man, while the character who gets the spotlight, the interesting conflict and the complex romance (that's still discussed and replicated today) is an underdog man of color. But now, Fennel has bent over backwards to make extremely weird casting choices that inevitably plays right into this racist trope, once again portraying people of color as romantically undesirable and inferior to the epic charms of a complex white(washed) character.

i think it's actually really horrifying and detrimental that it's considered socially unacceptable to tell parents when they are making mistakes while raising their kids

"don't tell me how to raise my kids" is seen as a good defense and it's so disturbing to me.

children are not your property that you can do whatever you like with.

giving birth or impregnating someone or adopting doesn't give you some inherent wisdom that means you can never fuck up.

and you shouldn't have the right to abuse or neglect or misinform a child just because you have legal guardianship of them.

they deserve to have others speak up on their behalf. i don't care if it hurts your ego.

the vast majority of the time, it is all about ego and control btw.

a staggering amount of parents view their children as their property and see advice as someone trying to take away their "deserved" control.

a ton of them are more concerned with being perceived as a good parent over actually being one.

fundamentally awful shit like corporal punishment, anti vaxxing, poor homeschooling, parentification, child stars, kids being kicked out of their homes or forced into cults... all of that is possible because:

  • parents are allowed to have legal and social domain over their children,
  • parents are seen as suddenly being imbued with innate childrearing knowledge just by virtue of having a child, and
  • it's socially stigmatized to voice concern over a child that isn't "yours."

so much of the world's suffering is caused by this shit it's crazy.
