malleus and rollo are foils EVEN LONG AFTER GLOMASQ
I’m going to assume you already know Malleus and Rollo are character foils in Glorious Masquerade—but do you realize just how deep this goes?
LOOK AT WHAT IDIA CRITICIZES ROLLO FOR IN 5-7 OF THE EVENT STORY:
“You talk about peace, but the only peace you actually care about is your own. You’re over here yammering about how this is for ‘everyone’ and ‘the world’.
“And another thing—you say you’re trying […] for your brother… But did he ever ask you to do that? You can’t just claim he would’ve wanted something to justify your own atonement […]
“But let’s be real—you’re not doing this for him. You’re doing it for YOU. You’re just calling it noble when it’s actually selfish. You’re not trying to save your brother or the world. You want to save yourself.”
And you know what’s INSANE about that? Not only is Rollo correct when he predicts at the end of GloMasq that “a villain like [Malleus] will one day bring about a great disaster” (gestures to book 7)… but all of Idia’s exact points can easily apply to Malleus in book 7 too.
He spends the early part of the book grappling with the idea of Lilia leaving, then is confronted by the possibility of other changes. Yuu leaving as well, Malleus no longer able to maintain his subjects’ smiles with his magic (which he has continuously been over reliant on to resolve his problems), the looming thought of age robbing him of his companions…
What does he do about this? Does Malleus maybe cope using a healthy method? See a therapist? Of course not, this is Twisted Wonderland 💀
Nope, he decides his “going away gift” for Lilia will be… let’s see here… oh yeah, “seize control of time and space + force everyone on Sage’s Island to fall into dream realms where they can live in blissful ignorance forever, with plans to expand your domain to encompass the entire world”. And how does Malleus frame this??
Not JUST a gift for Lilia, but a “heartfelt” and “wonderful” present “for all of you, really.” Furthermore, Malleus specifies: “No longer shall you shed tears over sorrowful goodbyes […] you shall be reborn. Into a world without sorrow, where you will never lose a single person—not friends, not family.”
Malleus… Buddy… You’re talking about yourself. Look in a mirror.
YOU’RE the one who’s insecure about losing friends and family. YOU’RE the one who doesn’t want anyone to move forward with their lives. YOU’RE the one forcing your worldview onto countless others. YOU’RE the one framing your actions (which, by the way, no one asked you to) as benevolent and for the benefit of all. YOU’RE the one doing all of this to save yourself the heartbreak when the inevitable comes.
MALLEUS DRACONIA IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THINGS ROLLO DID. The irony on display here is delicious 😭
P.S. To be clear, I’m NOT saying that Malleus and Rollo are the exact same, only that their broad strokes are. I believe that Malleus is overall “softer” than Rollo. He has shown he is able to empathize with others and act out of genuine kindness For example, Malleus decided to host a Halloween party to include ghosts that had missed the celebration in Endless Halloween Night. Rollo, meanwhile is a flat-out hater and comes close to harming random animals chewing on his belongings 💀 I still find Malleus accidentally (or maybe it was intentional on the Twst devs’ part?) following in Rollo’s footsteps… The roles have been reversed in book 7, with Malleus acting as the self-righteous villain that Rollo was in GloMasq.

this is a part of the problem
you need to be able to explain why you shouldnt use ai rather than “oh well its obviously bad and you shouldnt use it or else youre a bad person” because that isn’t logic. “ai generates child porn based off of real children and whether or not it does is entirely up to how it is built and if pedophiles are able to find ways around those safeguards, because ai cannot in itself discern right from wrong” is a genuine criticism. “amazon tried to build a data center the size of tuson outside of tuson just to power their ai that would’ve increased the inability to stay alive outside in parts of arizona” is a genuine criticism. even “using generative ai teaches you not to learn how to do things yourself even when they’re difficult, devaluing necessary skills out of practice” is a genuine criticism when you look at the amount of people who think they are able of doing a difficult major when they couldnt write their own papers in high school.
but “ai is just bad because it’s bad” will convince no one and is a morally lazy position to take. about anything!
you need to know why reading someone’s diary is wrong if you want to learn about privacy and respect. you need to know why child sexual assault is wrong if you want to be able to help children form healthy age appropriate relationships. you need to know why capitalism is bad if you want to replace it with something else. you need actual concrete ideas and ideologies rather than “you should agree with me because i have the right vibe”
If only the System let SQQ and SQH have DMs. Everyone would marvel at how flawlessly they move together in battle and the like, but in actuality there would be a cloud of “BRO BRO BRO BEHIND YOU!” and “Fuck saving MP for your leaf spell, I need healing now!” and “I thought YOU were gonna tank!” and “System, show this motherfucker my stats, DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A TANK TO YOU?”
