What do you write?

I write for anime fandoms, books, and most recently c-novels/dramas. The specifics can be found on ao3 or my site. Most recently it’s Alec stuff from Worm!

Feel free to check out the site, I’m really proud of it! It tends to have fics sooner than ao3 does, solely because I love the way it looks to post there and I feel a lot less pressure in my own space. Eventually everything I post will be posted on ao3 as well– I will never leave the platform.

Should I tell you what you should do differently/“better (in my opinion)”?

Comments are welcome, concrit is not! I cannot emphasize enough how I’m not putting up with unsolicited beta/spellcheck/feedback on how you think my fic should go. I will delete your comment. Otherwise, if you just want to say something nice, feel free!

Please do not ask for updates on any of my fics. It’s not abandoned unless it’s tagged unfinished and discontinued, even the ones written 15-20 years ago.

Actually I think I will post my Silm conspiracy theory to my actual blog, which is, treating the text as an in-universe document:

There are historically significant stories about Gondolin and Doriath which both rely on, but attempt to quickly pass over with minimal comment, Thingol and Turgon putting people to death for petty reasons (in Turgon’s case, it’s explicit that the penalty for leaving Gondolin is normally death; Eol’s attempt to kill Maeglin happens when he refuses to back down in face of this. In Thingol’s case, the Silmaril quest happens because Luthien thinks he will kill Beren and makes him swear a pre-emptive oath not to do so, so Thingol demands a fatal task of him instead).

Silm is generally laudatory about Turgon until he ignores Ulmo’s advice, and fairly neutral on Thingol; it doesn’t portray either of them as an illegitimate ruler or tyrant (likely because of their connections to figures who were politically important in the Second Age), and these moments are de-emphasized by the narrator in terms of the rulers’ policies, so they’re not included for the sake of slander. They’re brushing over something awkward. They’re included anyway because Maeglin’s background and Aredhel’s death, and Luthien and Beren’s quest, don’t make sense without them, and are too historically important to Beleriand to be excluded.

So, IMO the best explanation is that casual executions for reasons that would be unacceptable to the in-universe audience at the time of Silm’s writing happened somewhat regularly in both Gondolin and Doriath, and these were the instances that could not be erased from the historical record. (This also might relate to the - probably post-Beleriand but I will talk about that elsewhere - consensus that inter-elf warfare was always Kinslaying and a great moral wrong, and so possible changes in norms of punishment.)

I would argue this is also perfectly consistent with the other information we get about both realms, including Turgon’s reaction to Maeglin harassing Idril, the reaction of Thingol’s courtiers to his foster-son, and the fact that Melian explicitly told Thingol that Eol was giving him evil, cursed artifacts as tribute and Thingol either declined to follow up, or knew about Eol’s behavior and ignored it (as well as the implication in Silm that Thingol’s Sindar were responsible for hunting the petty dwarves for sport); both Gondolin and Doriath seem to have been realms where the courts were sites of somewhat chaotic interpersonal violence, which the rulers condoned or encouraged.

Now, that doesn’t actually make sense for a number of reasons. To start with, the whole pack dominance thing isn’t real. It’s debunked science from the 1950s that managed to seep into popular culture and never went away, even after the original scientific research was disproven almost immediately.

Also, dogs have a pretty good understanding of human body language. Wildbow literally says “you smile at her and ask her how she’s doing, her first thought is that you’re baring your teeth at her in anger”, which is compete nonsense. Dogs don’t think you’re threatening them if you smile at them. Anyone who’s lived with a dog can tell you that.

Now, the Doyalist explanation is that Wildbow just doesn’t understand how dogs work. For a Watsonian explanation, the simplests is that Lisa was wrong, and Rachel is just autistic. If you want to keep the “her powers overwote part of her brain with dog psychology”, then you can, but specifically it’s the psychology of an autistic dog. I guess that makes some sense. The entities probably also don’t understand how dogs work.

You must consider also that shards sometimes do things based on popular culture and larger human understanding instead of scientific fact. I.e. enddringers being based on mythological figures. They use the common unconscious of the host species as a basis to make power expression understandable, imo, like Myrddin having powers that mimic Wizard Powers

Thinking back to the first story I ever started writing down (I was 7 or 8) about a group of stray cats who, every full moon, took the form of human kids. They actually were human kids, who had been killed (all at different times/by different people). Their bodies were each dumped by the side of the road where a cat had been hit by a car previously, and their souls landed in the cats’ bodies. Eventually they all found each other and decided that every full moon, when they shifted, they’d try to solve each other’s murders one by one. It was going to be a series, with each book focusing on a different kid’s murder mystery. I told my mom about it once, briefly, and she said “Those cat books (warrior cats) are making you creepy.”

Just finished writing this manuscript, the first story I ever started. 23 years in the making. Never give up, even if your mom calls you creepy 🖤
