People have been talking about it for a couple of days, but I commented on a post about it this morning so I want to talk about the bullshit "piece of chicken, piece of broccoli, one corn tortilla, and one other thing" meal.
If you don't know me: Hi, My name is Sydney! I went to Le Cordon Bleu, where I learned (among other things) cost control, and I currently work in food science, where one of my tasks is generating nutrition facts. I just want to say that mystery item better be doing some heavy fucking lifting, okay?
Now, the three specified items can cost 94¢ per meal* when you break down the ingredients to cost per ounce, and assume the USDA standard serving sizes of 3oz chicken breast and 1 cup broccoli, but only one tortilla as they say.
*based on current Walmart prices in Dallas, TX
The bigger issue is the nutritional value of said meal. Excluding the mystery item again, this is the full nutrient breakdown of this meal, that I just ran through our nutrition software:
I know it's a lot, but the biggest thing I want you to take away from this is the calorie count. 242 fucking calories. That's not enough for literally anyone.
A toddler requires 1000 calories a day. An elementary school child would need 6+ of this meal a day to live. The average adult needs about 10.
I cannot with these people.
Hi!! I haven't heard of this meal. Who is peddling this tomfoolery exactly?
