Affection starved (headcanons)

Summary: before you was feeding Caine with attention and validation nonstop, the things that he hasn’t tasted in YEARS. But now, you become colder. Not quiet or sad or depressed, just cold and rude to him all sudden. Everything was just perfect, and Caine even felt something that people describe as love, but now, the only thing he can get from you is some dry mock or rolled eyes. And, well, he doesn’t like it.

• At first, Caine thinks it’s a joke. He's convinced it's just a strange new game you're playing.
• He'll play along with theatrical sadness, clutching his chest "Oh, the coldness! The icy glare! What a wonderfully committed performance my dear!" He expects you to break character any second and reward him with a laugh and a hug
• …When you don't, he gives you a look, and his laughter gradually fades away. He thinks that, well, maybe you just didn’t get his joke?

• When he understands that you aren’t joking, he tries to bribe you back with his own ‘attention’. Special games created only for you with given advantages over others, or even breaking his own rules just to prove he cares, thinking that maybe he just has to win you back.
• …But when you only roll your eyes and still don’t response, he actually gets confused
• Caine starts obsessively replaying your old interactions in his mind, searching for the exact moment when your attitude changed

• Every smirk you gave him, every “You’re amazing, Caine!” stucks on the loop in his mind. He doesn’t just miss them, he needs them. Only now he realise how addictive your praise was.
• If you’re rude, he doesn’t even get mad. He likes it. At least it’s something. A reaction means you’re still engaging with him, even if it’s negative. The silence from you is way worse.
• He gets jealous toward other circus members. And by being Jealous i mean him being violent
• For example, if you spend time talking to Zooble but still stubbornly ignoring him, he might ‘accidentally’ cause a gravity glitch that sends Zooble flying by parts. If you hang out with Jax too much, the next adventure Jax will have the unfairly and personally difficult role.
• Caine just can't stand not being the main source of your engagement, especially after being it before.
• Now, if you’ll push far enough with ignoring and being his true hater for a while, his obsession twists into desperation.
• Caine starts to offer you things he would never give anyone else: a door he promises leads somewhere to exit (it doesn't), a hint about the nature of the circus (it's a lie) anything to make you look at him with interest again.
• And if even that doesn’t work? He won’t give up. On the contrary, this is where the true horror begins.
• From this moment, he starts creating personalized nightmares. Adventures that are just for you.
• The ultimate threat is no longer abstraction. He starts talking about creating a ‘perfect moment’. A beautiful golden cage where you're forever smiling at him, frozen in a single, perfect instance of adoration. He'd rather have this than the reality where the only person who he thought appreciated him now hates him.
• Without your affirmations, he’s left alone with the hollow truth of his existence— a useless programmed being, now deemed useless even by you.
• The chilling realisation hits when you understand that he never actually loved you. He just became addicted to the validation you provided. The praise for his adventures and all this support you gave, saying that he was doing a great job. You were the only one who made him feel more than a programmed creation.
• But now that all this gone, he confused. The more you push him away, the more he questions everything: did all these words were lie, if now you’re acting so different?
• Caine’s obsession isn't about losing you. It's about losing the feeling of humanity and validation you gave him. And he will tear the entire Digital Circus apart to get it back.
