Just made myself happy thinking about the kids meeting a brand new Stanley the following summer

Ford knew how bright and full of energy Stan was as a child/teen, so he's not surprised. He's so very happy that his little brother is still there, despite everything. First he meets this older version of Stan, so different from what he remembered (god he feels so guilty about the man Stan had to become in order to survive, but that's a topic for another day), then as the year rolls he sees the spark return to his twins' eyes, that vibrant demeanor, the easy smiles and shows of affection. He loves them all.

But the kids have never met this version of Stan. And by kids I mean all of Stan's kids: Mabel, Dipper, Soos and Wendy.

When the grunkles come back, the first thing they all notice is that they look so much more similar than they remembered; Ford has a much more relaxed demeanor, he has gained some weight and wears an easy smile almost constantly, paired with his always vigilant eyes. Stan, on the other hand, looks much more present, has lost some weight and walks slightly straighter, despite his bad knee. He also wears a big smile, and now that the kids think about it, all his previous smiles now look forced in comparison. They both look unabashedly happy.

Soos, being the one to know Stan the longest, is the first to notice the radical changes, especially in his routine: the former Mr Mystery still wakes up (and is consistently) grumpy, but he seems much more well-rested. He no longer wears concealer to hide his eyebags from costumers, and even though they're still visible, they don't make him look as sickly as they did before. He still whistles as he cooks breakfast, but Soos can tell it's not in an attempt to keep himself awake after a sleepless night. He walks around the house without having to stop and lean on the walls from what he later learned was an untreated injury in his right leg.

Soos knows better that to bring all these things up, because he knows that Stan will either brush it off or change the topic. The new Mr Mystery settles for simply enjoying this new version of Stan, and smiles as he watches the man he's always looked up to laugh in a way that he's never heard before.

AWWWWWWW gravity falls
