Discussions of trans women in sports often focus on elite/professional sports which honestly I find it hard to care about but the more common scenario of “we’re going to legally ban a high school girl from playing sports with her friends because she’s trans” is just profoundly evil

i remember when utah's (republican) governor ended up vetoing a law banning transgender students from playing high school sports when he looked at the numbers, and there were only four trans students in the state playing sports at all. he released a clumsily worded but surprisingly compassionate statement about the decision.

I must admit, I am not an expert on transgenderism. I struggle to understand so much of it, and the science is conflicting. When in doubt, however, I always try to err on the side of kindness, mercy, and compassion. I also try to get proximate, and I am learning so much from our transgender community. They are great kids who face enormous struggles. Here are the numbers that have most impacted my decision: 75,000, 4, 1, 86 and 56. 75,000 high school kids participating in high school sports in Utah. 4 transgender kids playing high school sports in Utah. 1 transgender student playing girls sports. 86% of trans youth reporting suicidality. 56% of trans youth having attempted suicide. Four kids and only one of them playing girls sports. That’s what all of this is about. Four kids who aren’t dominating or winning trophies or taking scholarships. Four kids who are just trying to find some friends and feel like they are a part of something. Four kids trying to get through each day. Rarely has so much fear and anger been directed at so few. I don’t understand what they are going through or why they feel the way they do. But I want them to live.

of course, it didn't amount to much. they overrode his veto. it's just so cartoonishly evil. an entire state's political body so desperate to terrorize this one little trans girl.

I identify the most with the woman who has a green velvet ribbon around her neck and keeps being like "DONT untie my neck ribbon or something really bad will happen" and then her husband unties the ribbon and her head falls off. this is extremely real to me. spent my whole life like "please don't do this thing to me or really bad stuff will happen" and everyone around me being like "that sounds fake" and doing it anyway. and then my head fell off!

Taking up Japanese as a side project for myself has reminded me of something.

So like a long time ago I had a professor that I absolutely adored. She happened to be Japanese American. She grew up speaking Japanese at home but never really spent a lot of time in Japan. She mostly spoke with other Japanese Americans and read books.

So one day early in her teaching career there’s an exchange student from Japan who’s having a hard time understanding a concept so she explained it to him in Japanese and then he looked absolutely rattled. Like in shock. Pale.

This is how she learned that the way she speaks Japanese makes her sound like a gang member.

Japanese doesn’t exactly have cuss words in the same way as English does but imagine that the nicest professor you’ve ever had pulls your paper over and says “Okay listen here you little piece of shit I’m gonna fucking explain this to you. Violently.”

I can clearly remember the moment I first realised my mother and I were living on completely different planes of existence. I was 7 years old and I came home from my school's first track and field day having placed second or third in every event. the teachers had been making jokes all afternoon about how many times they had to call my name. my friends thought I was cool as shit. my enemies thought I was cool as shit too, come to think of it. I was proud as hell. so I get home with the entire front of my shirt covered in ribbons like I was a military dictator who'd awarded himself every medal, I walk into the kitchen and tell my mum all about my day, and she goes "oh, that must be disappointing not getting any firsts." and I'm like no?? first of all the first place ribbons are red and I don't like red. second of all look at me. there's literally nowhere left on my body for accolades. I am fucking Jacked of All Trades. how could this possibly be a disappointment.

Music is just cope for people who can’t generate emotions on their own

Some of y'all really need to go outside. To think it's somehow "not ok" to listen to music is the craziest shit I've heard all week

it literally isn't okay to listen to music. that's someone else's emotions and it's both embarrassing and ideological theft to use them instead of your own.

I'm really gonna need people who claim to care about gender inclusion on sports to stop saying "trans people" or "trans kids" when they mean trans women and girls.

Just for example before anyone gets annoying about this:

These are direct from the WKF (world karate federation) "Transgender Rules" document.

Here are there requirements for trans men to compete in men's divisions:

Obviously annoying but basically they're asking for a doctor's note that says go for it and that's it.

In contrast, these are the rules for trans women:

(yes it spans 2 pages) They are demanding that any trans woman who ever wants to compete at any level have transitioned hormonally before the age of TWELVE. They're looking for invasive information about someone's puberty stages (which if any girl was able to transition that young, what are the odds she can prove it??). They require regular testosterone testing and require you to be at a level under that of some cis women FOR YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. This policy clearly is designed to make sure that trans women will never be able to compete in women's divisions; these standards are simply unrealistic and absurd. And I didn't even include all the rhetorical justifications earlier in the document about all the biological advantages "males" supposedly have.

By the way, this doesn't only apply to the sparring competition (which is "skin contact" not full contact fighting), but also to the kata (forms) competition which is entirely non-contact and truly has no need to be gender divided in the first place. And this isn't even a professional league—it's all amateur except for an handful of people with sponsorships. It's not even an Olympic sport except for once in 2021.

If you truly cannot see a disparity here or you feel like justifying this in any possible way then you are not an ally to trans women and you don't actually believe in gender inclusive sports. This is what structural transmisogyny looks like, and this is why we need to be fighting specifically for trans women and girls and not just "trans people" generally.

They don't even ask the men for a doctor's note, from the way it reads. They just want a letter saying "Yes I am a man" written in the format they accept it, signed by the trans guy himself.

Vs complete surveillance of transfems, mandatory blood testing wherever you may be at least 4x a year, and a complete medical history they will reject you for if it is not an inconceivably lucky one.

We laugh at how The Art of War is basically just, "An army can't fight if the soldiers aren't eating," but I'm reading this document about conservation of ancient yew trees and it legitimately says, "You should never fill the center of a hollow yew with concrete," so I think that probably making blatantly obvious statements is just the bane of being a specialist in anything

Getting into a KarAkciddent and splashing 3 cups of FükkenScälden all over myself

“Great art, AI could never do this!” “Hell yeah! I love trans people! Transphobes cannot handle trans swag!” “Look at this lesbian dating another lesbian! We’re about to piss off the homophobes with this one” “POC have great cultural practices. I’m sure the racists are having heart attacks right now.””Love seeing disabled people around. Bet the ableist are peeing their pants right now.”

Oh I get it, we’re in the Bad Place.

"But what's wrong with this?" What's wrong with this is that often times, people leave these types of comments when it's not necessary.

Leaving comments like this takes a moment of celebration and turns it to a moment of spite.

This is especially annoying when it's online. Most online spaces are algorithmically based and since algorithms like to share posts that will spread controversy, comments like that are only going to attract more people to it.

Bringing generative AI into a conversation that was started when someone wanted to share their art is just going to attract a generative AI dick rider to "erm actually..." the conversation. Bringing transphobia into a conversation that's supposed to be support of trans people will cause transphobes to enter the conversation and remind said trans person about transphobia. And so on and so forth.

If you want to show your support, keep the first half and drop the second half. Just say "you're amazing" and move on. It's a supportive message and it's still a celebration.

This is also the exact same mental trap conservatives and right-wingers fall into, doing shit just to "own the libs" - then their entire existence becomes defined by hatred instead of having an actual personality

If you can't enjoy something without thinking about how it's pissing off someone you don't like, then what's even the point??

YES, thank you!

Just like being a Republican changed from being a side that stood for the individual person is now just "triggering the libs," if we go down that same route, we will be just as lost.

If everyone is just hellbent on hating the other side, who will be around to love us?

You can't say "look at these people getting triggered by us just living our lives" when in the next breath you admit that you're doing it on purpose. You're no longer just living your life, no longer merely existing. It's not only a sad way to live your life, it also becomes strategically self-defeating.

There was this really interesting post someone did about... I think traditional Chinese makeup from one of the dynasties. And it went on for several posts/reblogs being interesting and historical, and then someone came along to post about how upset they'd be if they saw white people doing this, or something like that, and I was just so impressed because until they came along, it hadn't been about white people for a change.
