See I don’t think Sherlock and Watson had much of a pining phase. I don’t think it makes sense for them despite the raging homophobia and queer panic of the era they were active in. I don’t think Holmes’s 1) deductive prowess 2) autistic rizz would allow for a long period of gay pining.
Holmes knew from the get go that Watson looked at both men and women with admiration. He’s got the greatest observation skills and deductive prowess of an era. It doesn’t take much to notice Watson NOTICING EVERYONE with gusto, he’s hardly subtle about his thirsty descriptions of men and women alike, even in his writing. He’s a former army man. A significant number of his former associates from the army have decidedly “languid” (late 19th century queer coded) qualities. This dude, even if he has yet to partake of any homosexual activities himself, is no stranger and holds no medical objections. (Particularly if you think of him as being based on Doyle, who wrote some very sympathetic, very progressive medical things on homosexuality in his day.)
And then you have Sherlock. Of strange habits. Uncouth. Very direct and to the point Sherlock Holmes. He’s not rude, not by any sense of the word, he’s too kind by nature, but he doesn’t brook any bullshit and has a low tolerance for artifice for artifice’s sake. And he’s DEFINITELY queer. (I did a whole academic presentation basically low key proving by the end Doyle KNEW what he was doing. That was a QUEER man Doyle was writing.)
This queer disaster, on a cocaine bender after not sleeping or eating for three days, emotionally disregulated in the wake of a case, will turn to the doctor Watson who is desperately and unsuccessfully trying to herd him into bed and feed him a sandwich simultaneously and say something along the lines of “My friend, your doting, as symptomatic of a larger altruistic nature, is one of your more attractive qualities. And I do find you devastatingly attractive, my dear Watson.”
And, Poor beleaguered Watson, so distracted as he is by trying to get Holmes to eat and sleep before he actively collapses on the floor of their rooms (which he has done. Many a time.), doesn’t pause to think about that before replying “And I’m absolutely besotted with you as well, good chap, but please can we discuss this OVER A GOOD MEAL after you’ve had a good restorative SLEEP, because damnit man are you TRYING to die???”
And the next morning they were in a relationship neither of them seems to consciously remember entering. Truly the dumbest brilliant gays.
In Rimworld my top surgeon just failed to give a guy a peg leg four times in a row. So that’s how my day is going.
Well no shit they can’t give a guy a peg leg that’s not top surgery at all

i love when ppl draw elias bouchard wearing like anachronistic ass emerald green waistcoats and a monocle in their fanart bc it makes s1 so much funnier to think about. like you know what? yeah actually if i was jonathan sims and my fucking freak of a boss dressed like that and did an evil monologue voice at all times and paid me to read ghost stories in his basement all day, i would also probably be like “yeah this is a deeply unserious job and i am the only normal person here. sick paycheck tho” and then clock the fuck out without ever thinking about those fuckass statements again!! like what are we dunking on him for!! who would chalk that up to anything other than “my weirdass boss has clearly taken his eccentric edwardian magician LARP too far but goddamn if that check doesn’t come in every month”
ive always rly liked the idea of a member of a group of adventurers having what everyone assumes is very well trained hawk and then at the end of their journey its casually revealed that thats actually just his buddy whos a shapeshifter and just rly likes being a hawk
the guy also like thinks everyone knows bc he never tries to hide the fact that the hawk is a person but everyone assumes hes always just joking. like the others being like “damn its crazy how he knows exactly what you want him to do its like he knows english or something.” and the guy is just like “well yeah thats his first language so ofc he’s fluent??” and they all go “haha good one” and move on, leaving him confused
they just think hes a quirky guy that really loves his pet and says things like “the 9 of us” even tho there are clearly only 8 people! he just cares about the bird so much he counts it as a group member haha !

You ever think about what Joli (the teacher of New Rho) must think about Nona.
You’re a teacher at the end of the world. Some of your students are homeless. Some of your students are soldiers. Some are just harmed beyond belief.
You run into a young girl who is just so bright and happy even in the midst of this hell. She’s a teenager but seems young and you don’t know if it’s trauma or a mental disability but she seems so excited about the prospect of school.
She lives with a beautiful woman in her twenties and another man who you assume is her father until you realize he is absolutely not. Oh.
It’s not an uncommon story especially for girls like her. Pretty orphan girls with no education, with mental disabilities. They say she’s nineteen and you don’t fully believe them but you convince them she can be an aid.
She’s wonderful with it. She makes friends and begins to learn. You notice she comes everyday groomed with clean clothes and that’s more than a lot of kids can claim.
Does she think about her when it’s all falling apart. Is Nona still being taken care of at the end of the world? Did she do enough to make this exploited girls life a little happier? Could you have done more? Could anyone have done more?
This scene makes me so upset.
It’s the first time in the series Jon decides to walk away from something instead of chasing it’s knowledge to a self-destructive degree.
And he’s “rewarded” for not feeding The Eye by being framed for murder and having that thought drilled into his head, “If I didn’t look away, Elias might not have had the same opportunity to kill Leitner.”
This moment literally teaches Jon that he’s correct to be paranoid about knowledge slipping through his fingers, and he’s right to push himself too far to get it. He’s not even allowed to take a breath after speaking with the man who ruined his life with his books without there being disaster. And I think this moment has a lot of implication for his actions later in the series.
