Who are your top 5 favorite ships ever from any media (can be canon or non canon)? Why are they're special for you? Sorry for this random ask & thanks if you want to answer!!

Again, in no particular order (I wrote them as I remembered them):

Chrom x Robin [Fire Emblem Awakening.] I have a preference for fRobin but I understand both male and female are the same unit.

-> Fe:A is probably my favourite media ever, and while I wasn’t invested at first, having Chrom marrying my unit/Robin out of the blue truly surprised me. They’re really two halves of the same whole. Also this union results in Lucina who I love more than anything.

Leona x Vil [Twisted Wonderland]

-> I didn’t expect to play this game to find ships but I fell for their relationship very early in the game. It’s mostly special because it pushed me to write more consistently and to develop my abilities, and I’ll always be thankful for that.

Shion x Nezumi [No.6]

-> I read/watched No.6 when I wasn’t into anime anymore so it partially brought me back. I reread those novels and the manga so many times because I loved how the relationship developed. I liked that it wasn’t the main aspect of the novel, but that it was a huge push for the way both of them acted. I haven’t read the new one though.

Hua Cheng x Xie Lian [Tian Guan Ci Fu]

-> They truly invented love. I’m not gonna lie, it made me believe in love again even though I know a relationship like theirs is basically impossible. I still think some of the scenes are the most romantic ever (the 3000 lanterns for example).

Shaytan x Layla [Seisen no Iberia – Sound Horizon]

For a while, SanHora didn’t have any happy ships. They were mostly one sided or ended tragically, so it was amazing to see a ship that wasn’t like that. It truly was exciting to see something different. Idk if it’s exactly a happy ending since after they become the enemy and end the war, they simply disappear. Anyway, I also loved the performances by Revo and Yuuki, so that was a plus.

Special mentions to: Say’riTiki from FE:A and NyanChogi from Tourabu

SayriTiki just pains me. Tiki finally has someone after years of solitude but Sayri won’t live for long. It’ll be a blink of an eye in Tiki’s life. But still. They’re precious.

NyanChogi was what actually pushed me to start writing after many years (though I only wrote like 5 things for them) so they walked so Leo/Vil could run.

Random ask, who are your top 7 favorite characters ever (from any media) and what are your top 5 favorite media ever (can be manga, anime, books, games, movies, tv series, etc)? Thx

Top 7 characters (in no particular order other than Luci):

- Lucina (Fire Emblem Awakening)

- Vil Schoenhait (Twisted Wonderland)

- Luo Binghe (Scum Villain’s Self Saving System)

- Shi Qingxuan (Tian Guan Ci Fu)

- Urashima Kotetsu (Touken Ranbu)

- Akoya Gero (Bkcbl)

- Artemisia (Sound Horizon’s Moira)

Top 5 favourite media:

- The Haunting of Hill House

- Fire Emblem Awakening

- Touken Ranbu Musical: Mihotose no Komuri Uta

- Cien Años de Soledad

- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Special mention to my favourite manga, Nabari no Ou, which I haven’t re-read in over a decade so idk if it still holds up.

Anon you made me really use my brain for this one. I never think about who are my favourite characters so I had to do some introspection. For the favourite media, I simply couldn’t choose just 5 of everything. I like too many books and movies for that. I tried choosing one of each, though.

Some canon couples that I'm not really a fan of for whatever reason (sorry)

This is just my personal opinion, I don't mean anything negtive about these works or to aanyone who love them.

I even like some of them, but those works can't be my personal favorite because I don't really like the canon couples.

Hi!! Just want to say, thanks so much for sharing your amazing fics... I really love them all!! 🤩🥰

Especially "Just the Two of Us". As someone new in Twisted Wonderland fandom, you made me fall in love with Leona/Vil ship. And I'm so grateful...😆🤗

I just can't stop when reading your fics because they're all all so beautiful...

If you don't mind me asking, what do you think are Leona and Vil’s greatest personality strengths and weaknesses? Why? What do you love about their dynamic? Sorry if you've answered these questions before..

Hope you have a wonderful day, dear author....💐

Thanks for the message! And sorry for the delay. Tumblr doesn’t show me notifications from time to time so I missed it.

I’m happy to hear that. Ngl I love when people tell me that my fics brought them to the best twst ship. I hope you enjoy your stay in the fandom. Also thank you so much for reading my works!

I don’t remember if I’ve answered similar questions. I might have made a few posts about their dynamics and relationships but it’s been a while, so I don’t mind responding. Personality-wise, I think their strengths are kind of similar. They’re both smart, talented, strong, and reliable when it’s needed. Leona is also pretty clever which can be both a good and a bad thing, and Vil seems to enjoy pushing others to be better (and again that can be both a good and a bad thing). Weaknesses in general for both is their pride, their competitiveness, and their hotheadedness (that probably come from being fire signs). On their own, Vil’s most prominent weaknesses are his impulsiveness (which doesn’t come up all the time but it’s still there) and his null ability to know when to stop (not only himself but also by pushing others). On the other hand, Leona’s are his laziness and lack of motivation. Now, most likely these both come from depression (and I’m not someone to diagnose characters, but I don’t think it’s off to think that’s the case considering he couldn’t even dream a happy life for himself) but they’re still part of his weaknesses. He doesn’t feel like it’s worth to try anymore.

And that’s one of the things I like about their dynamic. They have certain similarities (and I don’t know if that was done on purpose or it’s just a case of Disney villains having similar traits) but the way they react to their ‘inferiority’ to their story-counterparts is opposite, so that makes way for many possibilities in their relationship. I think one of the first, and probably one of the best, examples comes from the first Fairy Gala event when Leona got tired of trying to pose for Vil and goes back to bed. He’s done trying and it’s useless in his opinion, but Vil doesn’t give up and goes to him and finds a solution. I feel that one instance (iirc it’s from Leona’s SSR vignette) portrays not only their relationship very well but also the difference between the way they deal with certain problems.

However what I enjoy the most about them is how much they understand each other, and to a certain degree respect and trust each other too. I mean, they argue often (more so than other characters), they tease each other, they definitely hate certain aspects of the other (for Leona it’s Vil nagging and for Vil is Leona’s laziness), and they probably won’t consider each other friends or even close acquaintances; but they also understand very well each other’s abilities and good points, so when there are problems or when they need help, they know they can count on the other. I do think I’ve mentioned this before, but I think that since they can be themselves around the other and don’t hide anything about their own identity or about what they dislike about the other, there’s some extra familiarity or camaraderie between them. (Episode 6, Tamashina Miina/Cloudcalling, and Playful Land are examples of this btw).

I hope this answered your question but don’t hesitate to ask more. I do enjoy writing about them a lot, after all.

31/50: you can't always desire what you want ("ichigenme: the first class is civil law" and "don't blame me!")

We English-language bl manga fans have not always had it easy, but those of us who are Yoshinaga Fumi fans (and especially those among us who have been fans since at least the mid-2000s) have always eaten well. Most of her work has been licensed, which is unsurprising in the case of her award-winning non-bl series like Ooku and What Did You Eat Yesterday?, but is exceptionally surprising when it comes to her early explicitly bl work like "The Moon and the Sandals," "Truly Kindly," and "Solfege." For this I think we have "Antique Bakery" to thank. A shoujo series (with a prominently gay character) so popular it received an anime adaptation and Japanese, Korean, and Thai live action adaptations (none of which, in my opinion, ever fully captured Yoshinaga's particular charm and style), "Antique Bakery" was the first of Yoshinaga's series to be licensed in English, and for a while it remained understandably her most well-known. It is, as we all know, not enough to be good to make it in the English market; you must also be sellable, and when all else failed, you could always bill Yoshinaga Fumi in the mid-to-late-2000s as "the creator of Antique Bakery."

Which DMP did, when they licensed "Ichigenme: The First Class is Civil Law" under their 801 Media imprint. How else do you sell this two-volume manga, whose plot requires you to have, of all things, a passing understanding of the "zemi," a uniquely Japanese higher education tradition where undergraduates choose a small-group seminar that historically furthered both one's academic and social/professional lives? In this story, straight-laced and determinedly middle-class law student Tamiya joins a zemi purely based on his interest in the subject matter, only to find out that due to the professor's notoriously easy grading, it is The Gathering Place for his well-to-do classmates who don't care at all about studying. Among them is Tohdou, the son of a congressman, who despite his frivolous personality and appearance earnestly pursues first Tamiya's love—and when that fails, his friendship.

I'm so happy when finding out you also a fan of Karaoke Iko!

And love your review on ep 3!

Can I ask your opinion on the series as a whole (5 eps)?

Also, what do you think that made many fans love kyosato? What is so special about Satomi and Kyouji's dynamics (in your opinion)? I was shocked when finding out they have such a hige fandom in East Asia.

Plus, are you kyouji (top) / satomi (bottom) or satomi (top)/ kyouji (top) shipper?

Even myself that usually not a fan of non-canon ships can't help but love kyosato so much...!! Now, I'm one of the their die hard fan, too 😆🤩

Oh, have you read Famiresu Iko? What do you think about it?

Have you read any BL with the dynamics that remind you of kyosato (age gap with power imbalance)?

Hi! Thanks a lot for reading my Let's Go Karaoke episode review! It was long and rambly, haha.

I think my reading of KaraIko is quite superficial, and I haven't read FamiIko yet, so I can't say my opinion is complete either. Still hoping for the official licensing announcement from Yen Press.

As for my thoughts and the probable reasons behind why, despite not explicitly being a BL, everyone and their mothers adore this series.

My Blorbos

This post is part 2 of my response to @dnana-2809-blog’s ask. They actually asked me to rank my top 10 faves, but I couldn’t decide how to rank them so imma do this differently

I tend to like certain archetypes more than others, so my blorbos can be categorized into the following groups:

  1. Eccentric Formidable Fighters
  2. Emotionally Constipated “Villains” (actual antagonists count too)
  3. Losers Doing Anything to Survive

1. Eccentric Formidable Fighters

This group goes first because it’s the type I instantly get attached to. No backstory or character development required.

Unless they’re a major character or primary antagonist, these characters typically only show up once in a while to challenge strong guys or attempt dangerous stunts just for the thrill of it before disappearing into who knows which next episode/chapter. Their presence in the story often makes the scene much fun and lighter no matter how dark it initially was.

My Top 7 Ships

This post is part 1 of my response to @dnana-2809-blog’s ask

1. Song Juhan / He Gu

Listen, these two aren’t first because they have the best relationship. I definitely don’t want what they have for myself. They’re first simply because of how fucking mad they drive me.

Song Juhan is an asshole, but he’s such a fun read. He’s like a child that doesn’t know how to express what he wants and can only throw tantrums. Reading him is like watching a race car speed straight towards a crash while you have your coke and popcorn on the side.

He Gu, on the other hand, is a saint. But the type of saint who’d forgive you from all your sins as long as you have a good face card. Off all the MCs in the 188 series, he’s the only one whose POV is full of purple prose of how handsome the ML/other characters are in the story. He presents himself as being this calm, unfazed type, but really, he’s just a face-con. Time and time again, he lets Song Juhan get away with evil, so seeing him finally snap was utterly satisfying.

I’ve mentioned on this blog before that I don’t really read fanfics nowadays, but HanGu is an exception to this. HanGu makes me feel such whirlwind of emotions that if I’m in the mood for some blood-curdling angst followed by cathartic redemption, they’re my go-to.

Hello....Do you mind if I ask your top 5 (or top 10) favorite moments from any media that you love (can be books, anime/manga, donghua, tv series, movies, games, etc)? Thanks if you want to answer. Sorry if I ask too much....

This has been in my inbox since May. I am so sorry

god, I have so many favorite moments from different media. ranking them would be impossible, so here are ten scenes I like ranked just in the order they came to my mind:

  1. The Earth is Online: The Bai Ruoyao Scene. It’s a big spoiler if I elaborate on it, but TEIO readers would know what I’m talking about
  2. I Upended Yet Another Campus Urban Legend: When Lin Yi revealed his true form. It made me wanna draw it
  3. Link Click s2 finale: This made Link Click trend for the first time ever on Tumblr and forever rewired my brain
  4. Link Click Yingdu Chapter: When Vein saved Xia Fei from the pool because that proved I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THEM BUWAHAHHA
  5. Mermaid Effect: When Rand saw Munster on the ceiling. The chills I felt when I read this scene for the first time. I tried drawing it back then, but alas, my skills couldn’t capture the horrors
  6. Years of Intoxication: When He Gu told Song Juhan he had slept with someone else, driving him mad. God, that was so satisfying. I still reread that chapter whenever I’m in the mood for some blood-curdling angst
  7. Guess I’ll Have to Run the Plot Myself!: The novel’s climax. It was so satisfying because not only was it the plot climax, it was also the moment the main cp finally got together after 50+ chapters of slow burn
  8. Rebirth of the Supreme Celestial Being: When Duan Yuyang told Yuan Tianwen: “This just shows that we’re destined to meet but not fated to be together, and even the Dao of Heaven can’t bear to see us together, so let’s just end it like this.” HE OBLITERATED HIM HAHAHHAHA
  9. Blue Lock: When Bachira told Isagi “I like you” in episode 1 of the anime before proceeding to steal the ball from him to chase after Kira. coz holy shit, that was wild. That moment made a Bachira fan and a BachiSagi truther
  10. Yatagarasu: When Wakamiya told Asebi, “I loathe you.” Chills!

Hello 😆

If you don't mind me asking and if you have some free time, can I ask your question back :

"Is there any love triangle where, in your opinion, the protagonist should choose a different person than in canon?"

Thanks 🌻

Avatar

Hi!!! c(>ω<)ゞ

I had a feeling I'd get a question like this too, hahah. Thank you for the ask! <3

Vampire Academy

Years have passed since I read this series, but some things will stay with me forever. Honestly, I wasn't the biggest fan of Dimitri back then because I didn't really like the age difference and the student-teacher relationship. But I love Adrian, and I really wanted Rose to choose him. COME ON, HE QUIT SMOKING FOR HER!!! I'll never forget it. I was so impressed by how he changed for her, and I was angry when she broke up with him because she loved Dimitri.

Vampire Knight

Another vampire example whose relationships are really complicated, and it's really hard to comment on it, because Yuki kind of chose both of them?? But I was Team Zero from the beginning, and it should stay that way. Kaname should never have even been considered. That's a whole other level of incest, and I really don't care that it's normal for vampires.

Orange

No, no, no, no, no!! Years have passed, and I'm still reeling from Orange's ending and I don't accept it. In my opinion, it should have ended at volume 5. I can't accept this version of the future where Naho stays with Kakeru, and Suwa, after everything he did for her, how much he loved her, is left alone. I think Suwa (my favorite character in this universe) was treated unfairly. Orange is a truly profound story that touches on important themes, but I'll simply never be able to shake the frustration caused by the resolution of this love triangle.

Shadow and Bone series

From the very first volume, I wasn't a fan of the Malina ship. I never liked Mal, and Alina isn't one of my favorite protagonists. Mal initially annoyed me because he was chasing another girl and really hurt Alina. My friend and I even had a heated discussion about how much we both disliked their relationship. We both concluded that it wasn't a real relationship and their "attraction" was due to magic. Would they have been together under different circumstances? I doubt it. I also have a lot of conflicting feelings about how they treated each other. In my opinion, Alina should have chosen… Nikolaj! I should probably say the Darkling, since he's a hot villain, but it was her relationship with Nikolaj that I enjoyed the most. I saw a true partnership there. Plus, Nikolaj is one of my favorite characters in the Grishaverse, so the choice is easy.

Nana

I don't think I need to explain why Nana Komatsu should stay with Nobu and not Takumi, because it's obvious. Takumi is a notorious cheater who treats Nana badly. He's practically a villain in Nana. It was Nobu who brought her true happiness. When she decided to stay with the father of her child, I almost wanted to scream, "Nooooooooo!!!" Nana, with her decision, which she believed was the right one, affected not only her own life or a life of ther child. This series could have turned out completely differently if she had stayed with Nobu.

I could probably find a few more such love triangles where I think the protagonist should choose a different person, but maybe that's enough for now.

Thanks again for your ask and have a nice day! <3
