i’ll be the ship, i’ll be the shore

for @118bigbang

“Daddy!” Ellie calls for him, and Buck spins around, smile stretching over his face.

“Ellie!” he calls back, opening his arms and crouching a little so he can catch her when she takes a leap. He spins her around once before he sets her back down onto her feet. “Hi, sweetheart, how was school?”

“It was good,” she says, slipping her small hand into his. “But I’m excited to go home.”

“Yeah?” he asks. “Because we’re hanging out with the Diazes?”

She grins up at him. “Yes! And because we’re making lasagna.”

Buck laughs, and, over his shoulder, calls to Eddie and Christopher, “You guys hear that? You’re gonna have to compete with the lasagna for Ellie’s attention.”

“Ohh, lasagna,” Christopher says dreamily, and Buck and Eddie grin at each other.

in a world where buck has a daughter christopher’s age, he first meets eddie at their kids’ school. things progress from there.

But then Eddie stepped on stage, and it was like Buck just lost his mind.

He didn’t whoop, or cheer, or whistle, just stared – and once the bidding started, Buck had to do something.

Now, he feels crazed, knows that this is objectively an insane thing he’s doing, but he can’t stop. All these rich people, women and men, bidding on Eddie like a piece of meat – they can’t have him. Buck bids 2,400 dollars to go on a date with his best friend who’s now staring at him openly, and he still can’t stop.

what if eddie was part of the charity auction? and what if buck was in the audience?

personal preference blah blah blah hen and eddie being the only two drinking white wine because they are…hiding something…?????????????

fastcardotmp3:

there really is something about the way hen in recent years - both in canon and fanon - gets pushed into the perfect model for leadership who always has it together for whatever is needed of her, a fact which can’t be removed from the fact that she is the only woman (and a black woman at that) on her team, y'know?

add to that the first part of this season, where bc of the nature of tv storytelling we don’t get to dive into everyone’s responses to their grief at once and so the lack of Hen’s experience post-Bobby does feel missing in those early episodes??

i think it’s actually very very interesting that she’d burst with those feelings of why didn’t anyone ask how I was doing even if they were asking this time around, because the thing about a loss that big is by god will it drag up shit you maybe weren’t even entirely aware bothered you!!

she fucked up and she put her team at risk and she acted on impulses which were falsely informed by trauma and is wildly off-base to think she could still work under these conditions and that is delicious on its own but using that moment of combat with her loved ones to unload everything else too? years of feeling like she had to fulfill this moniker of “mother hen” (bobby coined btw to rub some salt in the wound) as though she, too, wasn’t being put through the ringer just as much as everyone else?

she turned down the captaincy in part bc she didn’t want to shoulder that this time!! perhaps bc she was, even before bobby’s death, burning out on the role she’d always filled!! now whether the narrative is willing to let her be multiple levels of wrong and right at the same time is up for debate with the way they framed it this ep but with this at the root of it? i’m kinda into it i must say
